Of course, I read many sources (tens). Data of English Wikipedia are the most negative for Russia. Other sources give the attitude of losses of Russia to losses of Japan as 1:2. I have not found any source where losses of Russia would be more than losses of Japan. Really do you think, that I read only one English Wikipedia? ![]() |

Lexi and Countess,
Why you do not wish to believe (to recognize), that military losses of the won Japan were twice more than military losses of the lost Russia? I shall remind you, that in WWII the military losses of the won USSR were seven times more, than military losses of the lost Germany! By the way, in WWI the losses of Russia and Germany were approximately equal - to a question on quality of Nicholas's military management … |

Actually now that I think of the original question, I think Gorbachev and his policies being more recent are more relevant to whether Russia needs a monarchy today than Nicholas and his policies but that wasn't the reason I brought him up. I brought him up to illustrate that some of the same issues that affected the czars are affecting the present day. Given that we've all gone offtrack a bit (myself included) it would probably be best if we returned to the discussion of the original question.

Well…
I think, we can ascertain, that since time of Nicholas's II board Russia almost has not promoted in development of democracy and that many problems of the large country are not solved till now. Many other problems (corruption!) were aggravated. In 1913-1917 Russia was on 6-th place in the world on development of a national economy. The population was 175 million person. Now Russia is not included into number of the most developed countries of the world. The population - 142 million person … |

Good point Ysbel, we are off topic. I apologize for participating in that. I that often topics veer off and a good discussion happens. Since there is nothing historical to discuss about whether Russia needs a monarchy and since known of us (myself included) are qualified to determine that, I'll bow out of this discussion.
Boris, perhaps we can continue this at CH. |

Dear Lexi,
I'm grateful to you for participation in the discussion here and on other themes (and at other forums too). I hope, what have not offended you here? It seems, sometimes I happen too (unduly?) energetic and too hot in discussions. Best regards ![]() Boris |
