Monarchy and Restoration; Rival Families and Claimants

yes, that is true but they would convert. your opinion about the princess michael sounds begrudging and not objective. has it to do with jealousy or bad personal experience? just because she is beautiful and wears nice clothes and has curly hair that does not mean she has no substance. she has studied what most of the women in the british royal family have not and when she married prince michael she was a selfmade woman with her own company and job because she has brain. that is different from people who have kept waited and sitting around before her prince finally proposed. but in this day and age such women are more popular among the commoners because they are so common like them, they do not wear fantastic dresses and they have not done something exceptional. they do not even look remarkable and yes, for common people it is easier to identify with cinderellas. why should someone be jealous of mary or mette or what's her name? in russia princess michael is popular because she is nice and does projects that help little communities and cities and people. i have seen her a few times and she was always humble and nice with a noble air. calm down now and drink a good tea, i would bet it's cold in finland too.

Why can't the Russians organize a referendum and vote for the Royal House they want as their Heads of State, when and if they restore the monarchy? Personal criteria like jealousy or bad experiences shouldn't matter, we're talking about the future of a country, about its destiny.

yes, true. it is possible that when the monarchy comes back it will not be the romanovs that will reign but another family. i like your idea of a referendum. my friends and relatives suggest that too. brilliant.

I am from Russia and I'll want the restoration of monarchy, but unfortunately there are still very few adepts of restoration. In order to restore the monarchy we need to organize a referendum or something similar,we have to work more on royal blogs in order to inform better people.
Despite the fact that Prince Michael is my favourite "pretender"(in addition due to his resemblance to the last Tzar of Russia) I couldn't deny the work of other pretenders, like Great Duchess Maria Vladimirovna(who has a very strong personality )and Rostislav Romanov.
Unfortunately, many people don't know Prince and Princess Michael and other pretenders. After, the figure of Tzar is Saint and symbolic in Russian Orthodox Church,so the pretender and his wife should convert to Orthodox Church.
I couldn't claim that I am a supporter of anybody, but I don't criticize them much.I've met them on a few occasions,Princess Michael is a very polite person, maybe she's a little arrogant or not totally sincere ,but who is an angel then?
I wish to know more on descendants of the Last Tzar's sister for example.

i know people who want to create a party for monarchists in st. petersburg. it is a secret and dangerous but i hope they can be successful. you are right lenora, the people must be better informed first.

Thanx for saying it's brilliant, Spasiba maya drooga! :) It's the only peaceful way we really don't wanna see another revolution or more blood in Mother Russia. :flowers:

You are quite right. The Romanovs were one of the noble Russian families. They were offered the crown by the Zemsky Sobor. Another important point is that the Romanovs' male line ended with Peter II's death. So some version of the Zemsky Sobor could gather again and choose another family. For instance, the Ruriks or Princes Dolgorukiys would fit.

...i believe in ten years the monarchy will be back in russia.
Will it really? Not during our lifetime, if you try to think realistic.:whistling:
...For instance, the Ruriks or Princes Dolgorukiys would fit.
The genealogical DNA tests have proved that the Rurikids and Dolgorukovs' male lines in Russia had become extinct. The expats will have the same problems as the Kents and the Romanovs.

it could be. everything is possible, always. who would have thought in 1800 that the monarchy would be abolished and the tsar and this family would be shot? russia is large, wild and strong. )))

Let's throw the dice then, problem solved. Kents or Romanovs? JK :)

You are completely right. The election is in the Russian and Byzantine tradition (The Romanov or Zakharin Koshkin - Yuriev were elected) and nothing obliges to choose Romanov or a descendant of Alexandre II, Alexandre III, Riukhikids....
I don’t know if a monarchic restoration is realistic. The polls are constantly negative. Even if the citizens of the Federation appreciate again the past, and now consider positively few of their last Tsars, their descendants or show a bigger indulgence.

Concerning Princess Marie-Christine, my opinion has nothing to do with the jealousy. It’s simply my opinion. As any opinion it has nothing scientific. But it’s simply of the perception and the comparison with the other facts. My mother is French and I was raised in France. They teach aestheticism when the elegance and the look are natural and don’t occupy the center of an existence. In France there is a difference between to get dressed and to be costumed.

I also remind that the Princesses (filmed and scrutinized with an obligation of total self-control) as moreover every person in Europe well raised and polished, owe be kind and of an irreproachable politeness in public.

I once met Princess of Kent and twice Prince Aimone of Savoy-Aoste in Moscow.
To the competition between stars of Gotha susceptible to make relive the last splendors of the Empire, the couple Aimone / Olga, with Romanov blood, seems to me even more pleasant, splendid looketc.... And younger. And also so worried of making good impression.

Is Prince Aimone Savoy-Aoste a pretender to the Russian throne as well?
Sorry, but I've never heard of him,I'll try to know more.
As to Princess Michael,if looking at her genealogy she has a lot of French background

No, Prince Aimone of Savoy is not a claimant to the (defunct) Russian throne; and actually neither Prince Michael of Kent is.
There are only two claimants to that thrione, namely Prince Nicholas Romanovic Romanov and Grand Duchess Maria Wladimirovna of Russia.

Actually as far as I live in Russia, never heard or seen (either on news or otheer events) Nicolai Romanovic Romanov.
So far I 've seen and heard only about Maria Vladimirovna(her son Georgii),Prince Michael of Kent and Prince Rostislav Romanov

Prince Nicholas Romanovic is the son of the late Prince Roman Petrovic of Russia, and is the President of the Romanov Family Association (which includes almost all the legitimate male-line descendants of Emperor Nicholas I, except Maria Vladimirovna, Giorgi Mihailovic and a few others). He is claimant to the Headship of the Imperial Family since Grand Duke Vladimir's death in 1992, and his claims are supported by all the members of the Associations.

Prince Rostislav Rostislavic is a member of the Association; since 2007 (and until 2013) he is one of its nine Commitee Members, and in addition he has also been appointed as official representative of the Association in Russia. It appears that he is among the supporters of Nicholas Romanovic's claims, and therefore it's unlikely that he is himself a claimant.

He’s absolutly not a pretender to the russian defunt throne.
No more than Prince Michael de Kent.
In the proposition of known and prestigious European princes, I added simply Prince Aimone who lives in Moscow and married an orthodox Princess and because they are both descendants of Romanov.
My Russian husband knows only Princes Dmitri (the brother of Nikolaï Romanovitch) and Rotislav as well as Maria Vladimirovna.
Dmitri is well known in Denmark (where my husband had worked three years ago), in Bulgaria (it’s him who was invited by the ex Czar Siméon to represent the Romanov for the remembrance of the independence of Bulgaria) and in the United Kingdom. His brother as his "cousins" often ask him to represent them. It’s him who was officially in charge of making the link between Danish authorities and Russian authorities for the transfer of Maria Fedorovna's relics and of representing the opinion " of the family " to begin with the direct descendants of the Downager Czarina . Is very implied in the support for the childhood in Russia (he is present often in receptions of fund raising in Europe) and wrote a book for children whose profits go to associations. His deceased cousin Rotislav was well known as the thinker of a positive meeting of the family through a foundation which can help Russia voluntarily. I believe that his young grandson is trained at the moment by the family to follow the steps of his dad.

Thank You for information, maybe the thought of Prince Michael like a pretender had been given by some Russian media sources and papers.Every time I read about his visit to Russia he is practically always presented as "actual pretender".Prince Michael didn't make a publicity of this idea, but he suggested he would be glad to take this role.
A Russian well-known specialist in Politology,Stanislav Belkovskiy, wrote not so far that"Prince Michael would be an ideal Tzar for Russians".Besides all,Prince Michael is said to be in friendly relations with Russian Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin and had been decorated by actual president of Russia,Dmitri Medvedev.

I’m agree with you of course.
Being a Sovereign is a job by prestigious mediation which has to be exerciced with prestige.
But you should not confuse the prestige of your country (that you serve) its dignity and your own dignity with your personal prestige especially when you use it to prove or hide behind your taste of the wild luxury.
The sympathic Prince de Kent can be interessed by this throne but, how could he at his age accept an imperial tiara in a country where numerous reforms again are to make and to offer a dynasty while his son is absolutely not interessed by a throne and by Russia in particular?

Just curious, how do you know this?
I think Marie-Christine is motivated enough to MAKE it work. And besides, they could change the Pauline law and let Ella inherit. However, Russo is just putting angels on top of pin heads here. . . .:whistling:

Very interesting idea,I remember one Russian royal blog considered him inappropriate ,but like the idea of Gabriella to marry a Romanov descendant and thus all the conflicts are solved.Though by now these suggestions are very hypothetical

Interesting reading. No doubt if Russia attempted to restore the monarchy, there are two factions that claim they are the ones to inherit the throne. They will be fighting over this, I'm sure. It will not be a smooth transition.

I wonder if the Russian people would want to restore the monarchy... I knew there would be no smooth transition because there are so many different claims to the throne. It would be interesting though to see how the "winner" would be perceived worldwide!

Grand Duke Georgi and Lady Gabriella are unlikely to match well. Are there any other eligible Romanovs?

I think there are some other Romanov male descendants of appropriate age

No, they do not want to restore it according to the recent polls.

I beg your pardon, it's neither beauty contest nor sports competition.

I'm headed over to Moscow in early February, for business. I'll ask the business people what they think of a "restoration," and of the current pretenders.

I never meant it to sound that way, what I meant by that was how the rest of the monarchs/heads of state/masses of people/etc... would perceive them. Would the world want that, I know 80% of the people in France wish they could restore their monarchy. It would be interesting to see how the masses of people worldwide would welcome whomever had the rightful claim to the throne.

I am from Russia and I know actually just a few people participated at polls.Of course I could not speak from the part of all nation, but I could affirm precisely that most of people are neither Against nor Pro.Most of them are simply INDIFFERENT and badly informed ,some of people(mainly old) still dream of Communist Paradise.
I think if the Government decides to organize a referendum then it will take place.By now there is a lot of work to do in this field.
The Russian Orthodox Church is mainly for the monarchy restauration and there were predictions that monarchy would return one day in Russia.

Just like the Fatima prophecy foresaw the fall of communism, I wonder if there are similar predictions by religious personas that the monarchy would return?
