Very nice pictures of Farah Pahlavi.

She was and is still such a beautiful woman. I can see a lot of grace in the manner she carries and conducts herself. I also find her to be very serene looking often, even though her life has not always been so serene.

To Alexandria

Hello Alexandria,
You have perfectly described how Her Majesty is. In my opinion she is the greatest Queen (or Empress) of the XX Century for what she did in Iran during 20 years working inside as the Queen. If she had had the media, magazines, TV, Internet like others have today, she would be in the first position and respected and admired for everybody.

Don't Feel Sorry for Her

I've been reading the posts on Farah Pahvli(sorry about the spelling), and why do you have such feelings for her? Her husband was a tyrant and she may have done some good things for the Iranian people, but she took in all the decadence of the monarchy. She, her husband, and others had their parties while their people starved. As a democrat and an american I'm ashamed of Jimmy Carter and how he allowed the Shah to come to the US. Sure, he was sick, but did he have to come here? And his family is till here in the US, his son has an office in Falls Church, Virginia. I wonder if the Shah's grandchildren know that their grandfather was a criminal responsible for the death's of scores of Iranians. Like Humerea(again sorry) said the US is willing to support a government/monarcy no matter what, as long as it has the USA's interests. It was the US who re-installed the Shah in 1953 I believe. If you want to see a good movie that deals with the post revolution lives of the Shah's elite, rent or buy "House of Sand and Fog." It's also a book by Andre Dubus III, the movie is about a woman who loses her home. The house is bought by a man named Massoud Amir Behrani, he was a colonial the Shah's air force. The colonial, his wife Naderah, and his son have been struggling since they came to the US. I don't want to give the whole story away, but it is a very sad movie.

This is only partially true

What you have explained is only partically true. I agree that Empress Farah's husband, the Shah, was a non democratic kint. However, you must consider the time he was in power: during the call "cold war" and while US gave its support to any kind of dictatorships around the world. Talking about the Shah policy, it's necessary to recognise that he gave land to farmers with land, that she ordered to build thousands of schools, also hospitals, only roads, he pushed the called "White Revolution" from power, something that has not done by any leader. Also he gave the right of vote to women, which is very important. If you compare this with the current regime, I think that the past one was better.
About Farah, she was a real leader among Iranian women, she was respected and loved, she presided many organizations, she was considered by the same iranians like her mother. You can read what was printed after the islamic revolution talking about her and nobody critizised her ...

I agree.
It makes me quite sad to see smart, beautiful women throw away their lives just so they can marry rich, powerful, corrupt men. I honestly dont see how you can go out and talk about womens' rights and democracy when you've got a husband like the Shah. Its quite hypocritical. Same could be said of Assma al-Assad and her husband. Its all such a waste, but then, its not these women were forced to marry their husbands, they make their own choices and deserve to live with them.

The shah was a very good person and he was not corrupt as you all say. it disgusts me when you call him a dictator. you know what good he did for the country, so stop calling him a dictator. again, to the person who called him a dictator, that was disgusting. if you want to write something so negative about our King and Queen, go to another forum. DO NOT write anything bad about my King, Shahanshah Aryamehr, on this forum.

I didnt know much about the Shah until I saw him on a Barbara Walters interview in which he said that women had never accomplished anything in history, his wife wept when she heard him say that. His politics wasnt any good either. He staged lavish receptions to impress foreign guests, he forced women to dressed in western clothing. During his reign, there were instances of police going around and ripping off women's headscarves, just as they force women to wear them today.
Im a student of history and know what Im talking about. I have no personal biases for or against the Iranian imperial family. Im not Iranian. I try and look at facts as objectively as they're presented to me. I think its you who needs to stop sentiment from clouding your judgement.

I think we need to all consider one another's feelings when discussing these matters. I think in this case we should all agree to disagree and move on...

A king and a Queen for a country

What they did was to work to convert Iran in a prosperous country, passing from medieval and feudalism system to a modern one. Of course, with problems as it happens at any country that wants to change ... and see that precisly were the most conservatives forces, the religious forces who were against their king.

Does any f you know why Princess Yasmine doesn't receive the treatment of Queen? If her husband is the Shah, she should be called Shahbanou as well Empress Farah is.
