What a tragic event! My condolences to the family!
Netty's royalty page mentions the Hereditary Prince was stuck inside the car and died of smoke intoxication.

It is such a tragic news, such a horrible way of dying, I'm very sorry for him and his family.

Wedding and baby news from the Mainau Island!

Count Christian Bernadotte and Christine Stoltmann, now Countess
Christine, who got engaged last summer, have married in a civil
ceremony last Saturday, May 22. The church wedding that was
planned for coming August has been delayed as the couple is
expecting their first child that same month! Here's a small version
of the official wedding picture:

I wonder where the wedding took place. That weekend the Mainau Island was so growded with people (long pentecost weekend, school holidays and super sunny wheather) that it would have been almost impossible to find some privacy.

It's so sad that Countess Sonja didn't have the chance to be with her children and grandchildren much longer.

The wedding has taken place on the island. All five sibbling have
married on the island (2003, 2004, 2007, 2009 and now 2010),
which is a very nice tradition in my eyes, also thinking of their
late parents.. Actually three other couples (not related, just
other couples) also took the chance and married on the island
that same day. So it seems you can have your privacy there
event if the island is as crowed as you've told us, Lichtenstein.

In the meantime the press spokesman of the Mainau island has
announced more baby news! Countess Diana is expecting her
second child and that baby is also expected in August. Her
daughter comes from her first marriage that was divorced,
there's no information about the father of the new child.

Hi iceflower, the Mainau Island was so crowded as I've never seen before. People had to wait about two and a half hours before leaving the island by boat. We've stayed just opposite the Mainau in Uhldingen for the pentecost weekend and it was just like whole of Baden-Württemberg, Austria and Switzerland where there.

Both the Island and the Schloss are pretty big; maybe there was enough room to squeeze in a quiet and private civil wedding.

Mainau is tiny! Even if about half of the island isn't open to the public it does not take much long to walk around it. Privacy can be found in the castle where only the base floor with the restaurant is opened for visitors.

Yesterday, August 17, the Mainau baby number 2 for 2010 was born
- exactly one week after it's cousin!

Countess Diana has given birth to her second child, now a boy! The
baby is called Eric Hagen Lennart (Lennart after his grandfather,
the late Count Lennart Bernadotte).

ZDF is now broadcasting a concert on Mainau of Andre Rieu. Countess Bettina and husband attended and one of her brothers too. I have no idea when it was recorded though.

Academic scandal for Freiherr zu Guttenberg

Karl-Theodor Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg is the scion and heir of a very old German family. His direct ancestors include members of the houses of Eltz, Wrede, von Meran, Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, Arenberg, Lobkowitz, Kinsky, Auersperg, Merode Thurn und Taxis, Esterhazy, Schwarzenberg... up to Liechtenstein and through Archduke Johann of Austria - Habsburg-Lorraine.

Quite illustrous. As is his marriage to a descendent of the "Iron Chancellor" Bismarck: Stephanie Countess of Bismarck-Schönhausen.

His job: Cabinet minister of defense of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Academic profession: lawyer. Doctorate from the University of Bayreuth.

A golden boy. Till scandal broke loose some days ago which gets worse by the minute- virtually.

Because the Baron is accused of being a plagiator on using foreign research in his dissertation without declaring it as quotes and mention the real authors. Which for academics and people of honour is something not easily, if at all, to remedy. At the moment lawyers from all over Germany have founded an internet group to check the dissertation and to document any quote taken from someone else's work without mentioning the source.

I follow the case (being a lawyer myself) and it looks really bad for him. He's been given to weeks to explain by his alma mater but the political damage is very bad. We'll see.
