Bettina Countess Bernadotte and her brother Bjoern baptise a Lennart-
Count-Bernadotte-Orchid on the island Mainau, Germany, 19 march 2009.

Mainau starts into the new season with half a miliion spring flowers and the traditional orchid show. Lennard Count Bernadotte, the founder of the flower island, is to be in the focus. The Swedish prince who died in December 2004 made the island the most important tourist attraction at Bodensee with 1.1 million visitors in 2008. The sociopolitical engagement of the Count is also commemorated under the motto '100 years Lennart Bernadotte'.

Thanks, Iceflower.
And here is the corresponding article of the newspaper Südkurier: suedkurier.de | Mainau: Besucherplus erwartet
Please note on the right side is a link for a picture gallery; no. 23 is in particular amusing.

Björn Bernadotte and his fiancee Sandra Angerer pose for
a photosession on the Island of Mainau on April, 17, 2009.

The couple will marry on June 7, 2009, as the German article
below says CP Victoria of Sweden will attend the wedding.

On May 8 Queen Silvia will be at Mainau as the 100th birthday
of Graf Lennart Bernadotte, who died in 2004, will be celebrated
with a ceremonial act.

There is a mistake in the article. The marriage date was earlier confirmed as 07. Mai, which would have been the birthday of Björn's mother, Countess Sonja.

Thanks a lot for tellig us about the mistake, Stefan!

With the recent Easter exhibition and spring photosession
pics of the family on the Island of Mainau in mind, I've found
the following old pics of the Bernadotte family in March 1980.
The Easter celebration has obviously always played an important
role.

** 1980 - 1 ** 1980 - 2 ** 1980 - 3 ** 1980 - 4 **

And I've always thought MY eyes were brilliant, Warren

Count Bjoern Bernadotte, oldest son of the Mainau-family, arrives with
his future wife Sandra and his sister Countess Bettina for a christening
of a bell in honour of his mother, who passed away in 2008, the evening
before his church wedding on the island Mainau, Germany, 06 May 2009.

On pic 2 and 3 the couple poses for some pics, you can already imagine
what a lovely bride the new Countess will be

Solms-Baruth, German prince fights for return of Nazi-seized land

German prince fights for return of Nazi-seized land (News Feature) - Monsters and Critics

Prince Friedrich zu Solms-Baruth, 45, is the 5th Prince of Solms- Baruth, and grandson of Prince zu Solms-Baruth III.
He says his grandfather's land and property in the eastern state of Brandenburg was seized by the Nazi's after an abortive bomb plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944. a claim dismissed by a court in Potsdam late last year.

In its December ruling, Potsdam Administrative Court recognized that zu Solms-Baruth's grandfather was persecuted by the Nazis, but argued this had not been the reason his land and property were expropriated. The properties in question had belonged to the prince's family since the 16th century. Today they are administered by the Brandenburg state, and by municipalities in and around the town of Baruth.

A settlement was reached in 2003 between zu Solm-Baruth's father and the German government, regarding the bulk of the family estates. The prince is now fighting for the rest of the estate still being held by Brandenburg state and associated cities, including forested areas said to be worth more than 7 million euros (9.4 million dollars) alone.
