Fiammetta, a good friend (with her family) of the Prince of Wales, married HSH Prince and Duke Charles Louis of Arenberg in 1988. They have two children: Princess & Duchess Anne-Hélène (1989) and Prince & Duke Evrard (1996). They seem to keep a low profile.

The Princely and Ducal House of Arenberg

Can anyone give any information on this Princely House? I know very little of Prince Pierre D'Arenberg only. Thank you. Any pics would be greatly appreciated also.

So they were actually German/Belgian. Is this a large family?

Sorry, but I don't know. I just found the links for you by doing Google checks playing with the words Arenberg. Maybe Warren, Alexandria or Elspeth (or anyone) has more information to elaborate on this family.
Now you put them on my mind I'm curious about them and their history too.

Thanks for the info. I will be looking them up also.

Arenberg

This Catholic family from Hainault can trace their descent to 1047.
They were made Counts of the Holy [Roman] Empire in 1549 by the Emperor Charles V, and raised to the rank of Princes of the Empire in 1576 (a rapid rise in status).
The family lands were created into the Duchy of Arenberg in 1644, where they reigned as Sovereign Princes until 1810. After the annexation of their lands by Prussia and Hanover the Arenbergs were recognised as a Mediatised House.

Members of the family bear the title of Prince or Princess of Arenberg and Duke or Duchess of Arenberg with the qualification of Serene Highness.

The current Head of the Princely and Ducal House is Jean-Engelbert, 12th Duke of Arenberg, 18th Duke of Aerschot and Chimay, 7th Duke of Meppen, 7th Prince of Recklinghausen, Count von der Marck, b 1921.
married 1955 HRH Princess Sophie (b 1935), daughter of Rupprecht, Crown Prince of Bavaria and Princess Antonia of Luxembourg.
among their children:

• Prince and Duke Leopold-Engelbert (b1956), married 1995 HIllH Countess Isabel zu Stolberg-Stolberg (b 1963); their children:
> Princess and Duchess Natasha (b 1996)
> Prince and Duke Philipp-Leopold (b 1999)

• Prince and Duke Charles Louis (b 1957), married 1988 Fiametta Frescobaldi (a friend of the Prince of Wales).

Almanach de Gotha & other

I would add that prince and duke Leopold-Engelbert and his wife Isabel have a third child: prince and duke Alexandre, born 2001 in Lausanne.

Prince and duke Charles-Louise and princess and duchess Fiametta have two kids:
princess and duchess Anne-Hélène, b 1989
prince and duke Evrard, b 1996

Duke Jean-Engelbert and Duchess Sophie have five children.

Prince and Duke Pierre is a very distant cousin of the current Head of the House. He is a descendent of the 6th Duke and Prince (1750-1820) and was born in 1961. He married in 1997 Silvia, daughter of the Marquess de Castellane-Novejean.

Pierre's mother was Margaret (Peggy) Bedford, and he has residences in London and the Chateau de Menetou Salon in France. Pierre has some association with the Prince of Wales and has been a guest at Highgrove.

The Illustrious House of Arenberg
A number of great families have marked our past and made important contributions to our cultural heritage. Among these, the House of Arenberg, from its origins in the Eifel, came to influence political decision-making in the Middle Ages and up to the 19th century. This European dynastic family moved its power centre to the southern Netherlands during the 16th century. Their fidelity to the Habsbourgs was rewarded during that period by elevation to the rank of prince in 1576 and to that of duke in 1644. The House of Arenberg has produced generations of political, military and ecclesiastical dignitaries and numerous patrons of the arts. Palaces, gardens, and objets d’art remain today the tangible witnesses to this glorious past.

This section has several interesting links on the left side of the screen.

Unfortunately, the above site lacks pictures, pdf family trees and photos of the palaces.

The Arenbergs also sponsor a History competition through their Foundation
Here is a description on The Arenberg Foundation prize

...Starting with the restoration and scientific work on very rich family archives dating back to before the year 900, the Arenberg Foundation has published or contributed to the publication of many history books. The Foundation develops the promotion of European archives, history and culture; it also strives to develop an independent, apolitical "path in Europe" to make Europeans aware of their treasures and culture. The Foundation has for example launched two history prizes in 1992 and is about to begin work on a "Prize for Europe" in 2007, all prizes being granted by independent juries every two years. The Foundation contributes to culture through classical music concerts, artistic exhibitions in European capitals and supports social and historical events at the request and together with European cities and towns keeping a historical lien with the d'Arenberg and Europe in general. The Foundation has also financed the creation of an archives' museum in Enghien and is currently in discussions with the Museum of Europe to develop a common project

The illegitimate daughter of Albert, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein (the grandson of Queen Victoria) married an Arenberg prince, but I can't remember what his name was...I don't think they had any children though.

That was Engelbert-Charles, 10. Duke of arenberg, but they had no children so he was succeeded by his brother Erik who was married to Marie-Thérèse de La Poeze de Harambure, he adopted her 2 children from her first marriage and her daughter married Archduke Leopold Franz of Austria, Prince of Tuscany former Head of the Grand Ducal family of Tuscan. After his death the Ducal Title passed to his distand cousin jean-Engelbert.

03.12. - Olympia, daughter of Duke and Prince Henri and Duchess and Princess Dainée d'Arenberg, was born at Brussels, Belgium

Correio do Minho

Last Saturday, the ambassador of the Order of Malta in Portugal, Prince Leopold d'Arenberg, gave two thousand euros to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Braga. This was the first time that Leopold d'Arenberg visited this Portuguese city, to support the charity work that is being developed there. The ambassador explained that the amount of money delivered is the result of an event organized in Lisboa, by the knights of the Order of Malta, in November 2006.

Before traveling to Braga, the ambassador and his retenue had been in Porto, visiting another charity organization, directed by nuns.

Prince Leopold D'Arenberg is the ambassador of the Order of Malta in Portugal and the president of the Arenberg Foundation, which has its headquarters in Brussels. This great-grandson of the last king of Bavaria is also a grandson of D.ª Antónia de Bragança (king D. Miguel's daughter), which explains his keen interest in the Portuguese History.

This tall, slim and amiable prince speaks nine languages and is a specialist of the Renaissance and 18th century art, reason why he expressed his enthusiasm for the recovery work that is being done in the Lar Nevart Gulbenkian, in Braga.

Is she the daughter of Prince and Duke Charles and his wife Fiammetta?

Thank you for these wonderful links and photos, Amedea! It's great to see Fiammetta Frescobaldi and her family, who don't often appear in the press.

Baroness Rosa Sophie von und zu Guttenberg, née Princess and Duchess von Arenberg, passed away on 17 November 2012, aged 89.

She was born on 23 December 1922 at Pesch (Germany), the eldest of the two daughters of Prince and Duke Robert Prosper von Arenberg and of his wife, née Princess Gabrielle von Wrede. Her younger sister was Anna-Eugenie, who in 1952 married to Archduke Felix of Austria (while a maternal cousin of them, Princess Anna-Gabriele von Wrede, married to Archduke Rudolph of Austria, Felix's youngest brother).
In 1943 she married to Baron Karl Theodor von und zu Guttenberg (1921-1972), who later became a noted CSU politician. They became parents of five children: Elisabeth (Countess Franz Ludwig von Stauffenberg), Georg-Enoch (a conductor and owner of the winery estate Reichsrat von Buhl), Michaela (Baroness Johannes Heereman von Zuydtwyck), Benedikta (who died a few weeks after her birth) and Praxedis (Baroness Albrecht von Boeselager).
Her husband died of ASL in 1972.

She is survived by four of her children, her children-in-law, 19 grandchildren (among whom is Baron Karl Theodor von und zu Guttenberg, a German CSU politician and former federal government minister) and 20 great-grandchildren.

Noblesse & Royautes has some information about Princess Laetitia d'Arenberg. They also shared a link to a documentary which shows Princess Laetitia talking about her childhood in Europe, where they lived with the Italian Royal Family whilst they (the Italian Royals) were in exile. They also lived near the Count and Countess of Barcelona, the parents of King Juan Carlos: Laetitia, la princesa gaucha - YouTube
