Default German Nobility

Thus thread is dedicated to the German nobility.

To start it off, an article from BILD, here. For those who always wanted to become a countess, german television station Sat1 started a new programme, called 'Gräfin Gesucht' (countess wanted/searched). Four nobleman are in the show. They don't give the complete names though, and I doubt if all are actually a count, some are just a 'von'.

Default Question

Hi. Somebody knows if HRH Georg Friedrich Prinz von Preussen restore a title of nobility ? One of my ancestors was Johann Knauer von Hartenfels. I think he was a Count. I don't know. He was ennobled at November 20, 1652. Somebody can help me ? I am looking for his title. Thanks, cfknauer.

cfknauer,
The first place I'd check is the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels. Otherwise known as the 'Gotha'. It is the authority used by many of the nobility associations in Germany as authentic. It is still active today and could be found in larger libraries. Here's a general website URL: HIS-Data Geneal. Handb. des Adels . Of course it is not all inclusive as inclusion includes a fee. Not every family pays that fee at each publication. I hope this helps you get started.
