Prince Nikolaos was born on 1 October 1969, in Rome, in the Villa Claudia Clinic. King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie had left Athens after the Colonel's coup in 1967, and moved to Rome.

In 1973, when Prince Nikolaos was 4, the family moved to Copenhagen for 9 months. They lived in the Amalienborg Palace - Queen Anne-Marie's childhood home. Prince Nikolaos remembers running up and down long corridors 'and the days getting dark early'.

Then the family moved to Chobham in Surrey for a year, before settling in Hampstead, London in 1975.

Prince Nikolaos' first six years of education were undertaken at home, by professor John Kanellopoulos, with his brother Pavlos and sister Alexia.

On his eleventh birthday, the Hellenic College of London was founded. It was then a boarding school, and Prince Nikolaos attended until he was 17.

He says that, at the school, he 'created mischief' and was sporty - playing football and tennis. His favourite subject was physics.

One of his early exposures to politics was during his time at school. The school started out as being part of the Greek educational system with teachers appointed by the State. Various situations arose as a result of differing political beliefs among the staff of the school. This caused tensions in the school, and Prince Nikolaos says that this is where he first 'lived' politics.

He remembers a Maths teacher from Crete (who was much admired by his pupils), breaking down in tears in front of the class because the Greek Government no longer wished him to teach at the school.

'It was my first insight into politics', he says. Eventually, the King closed it down, and re-established it as a wholly private school, having nothing to do with the Greek Government. It now has 175 pupils, and is very successful.

After the Hellenic College, Prince Nikolaos went to the Collingham Tutorial College in Kensington, gaining an A level in Spanish to add to his O levels, before leaving for New York in October 1987. There he took a market research post with a leading telecommunications company, Metromedia.

He loved every minute in New York - 'my favourite city in America'. His first impressions were that it was just as he had imagined it in the movies - steam coming out of manholes in the road and yellow cabs. His first trip to America had been in 1977 when he was taken to Disney World by his father and the late King Hussein of Jordan.

He went again for the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. In 1988, Prince Nikolaos began studying for a degree in International Relations, focussing on Diplomacy and Security at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He spent 5 years there - but with a break of a year in 1990 when he joined the British Army on a Short Service Limited Commission.

After 3 weeks at Sandhurst, he joined the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards as a 2nd. Lieutenant. He was posted to Germany and took part in the major military exercise 'Medicine Man'.

He considered 'signing on' for a full-time commission. But then came the Gulf War, and, because he was on a Short Service Limited Commission, he was not allowed to go.

He was very disappointed by that, because he had wished to join his fellow officers, with whom he had trained in the month before the War, when the Regiment had been put on special alert. He values his time in the British Army where he learnt 'how the cogs of the military work together under pressure'.

In 1991, Prince Nikolaos went back to complete his studies at Brown University. In 1993, with his new degree, he moved into TV production for Fox News in New York.

He was an active member of a news production team for two years - gaining experience in writing, original shooting, graphics, editing and archive. 'It was great fun to be in the city I love, doing a job which allows you to have your finger on the pulse'.

Prince Nikolaos returned to London in 1995, to work in finance in the City at NatWest Markets. There he worked in the foreign exchange options department.

Prince Nikolaos has visited Greece twice - once for his Grandmother's (Queen Frederica) funeral in 1981, and again with his family on a 2 weeks private holiday in 1993.

Both occasions were very emotional for him. He recalls the joy he felt at visiting his homeland, and seeing for himself what a beautiful nation it is.

Prince Nikolaos is currently working at his father's Private Office in London, and lives in Chelsea. He also serves a member of the Board of Governors of the Hellenic College of London.

He has dated a Danish woman and a super Model -what was her name, was it Elle?

I think that he dated Elle Macpherson if my memory is correct. They are sextremely good friends today. The Danish woman that he dated for several years is Sofie Egmont-Peterson.

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly ditched her romance with British rocker Chris Matrin and found love with Prince Nicolas of Greece.

The Shakespeare in Love star has ended her relationship with the Coldplay frontman, and friends say she is even dreaming of a fairytale wedding with the prince.

Friends say Nicholas has become a regular visitor to Gwyneth's London home.

A pal reveals, "Things are pretty hot between them right now. She's fallen in love and who knows where it will end? What's wrong with an actress marrying a prince? Think of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Morocco."

Unlucky-in-love Gwyneth, who lists Madonna as a close friend, boasts Hollywood hunks Ben Affleck, Luke Wilson and Brad Pitt as former boyfriends.

ninemsn.com under Hot Gossip had this to report today

Lady Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is working as hard as ever to break into the world's most elite social circles.

The 30-year-old actress, who's currently dating Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin, spent a recent weekend at Mulgrave Castle, the home of the Marquess of Normanby in North Yorkshire, England. Gwyn, who's been living in London for most of this year, arrived in style via helicopter.

The actress is clearly enjoying associating with the aristocracy. Only a few weeks ago the Academy Award winner attended an exclusive party thrown by Prince Nikolaos of Greece. The bash was held at the Blakes Hotel in London for Nikolaos's pals Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. The event was littered with a Who's Who of European royals with whom Gwyneth mingled all night, and other guests included Aussie supermodel Elle Macpherson and her partner Arki Busson (Elle once dated Nikolaos).

On top of this there was Gwyneth's fleeting romance with Crown Prince Felipe of Spain. The pair were seen out on a number of intimate dates earlier this year. While that relationship didn't last it appears her desire to live the life of a queen certainly has.

I think she has been making the rounds with the social scene but I am not totally ready to say she has moved on from Chris Martin.
Though she has the "love em and leave em" pattern down pat. She was just interviewed saying she has recently considered the idea of never being married. I saw this interview and the words were from the horse's mouth, so to speak.
These sentiments are not the words of a girl who is dreaming of her fairy tale wedding. When I see pics of her and Nic --then I think there is viability in the story, but for now--I figure she sells papers/mags--editors know this.

Since they couldn't sell the Felipe story for long--now they are using his cousin.

I really don't know what to believe about Gwyneth anymore. It really seemed that she was very interested in Chris Martin, but as you said Kelly she does go through boyfriends like Kleenex. In that respect, it is possible that she may have moved on already or perhaps become bored with him. However, if she is dating Nikolaos or just even thinking about it I really doubt that it will lead to marriage-Kleenex, "love 'em and leave 'em" thing and all.

There are several photos halfway down with Nikolaos and a lady in a black halter dress. This is the first time I've ever seen a photo of Nikolaos smoking. I didn't know he smoked. Do other members of his family smoke? Like King Constantine, Prince Pavlos, Queen Anne Marie or Princess Alexia? I know that members of his extended family smoke, such as Queen Margrethe, Prince Frederik, Prince Joachim, King Juan Carlo and Infanta Elena.

I am not sure about all of the other members of the family, but I do know that Queen Anne-Marie used to smoke and she quit some time ago. If I see any other pictures of members of the family smoking or find any news about this, I will post it here.

Prince Nikolaos can marry who ever he wants. He'll find someone regardless what nationality she is.
B)

Can anyone translate this article? I'm dying to know what it says! Or at least who the woman in the picture is?

The name of the girl is not mentioned on the article. It´s a typical german article about VIP.
Love and tears, nothing special. I think they had to rise the number of bought magazins. You can find it every day in germany nothing special. Sometimes it´s Felipe, Nikolaos or someone else.

Because Josefine has asked me, I´ve translated the article. But as it was said the post before it´s not a "special" one. Typical german tabloid stuff: Victoria is sad and in serious danger that her eating disorders will come back, because Nicolaos, Frederik, Felipe, Daniel 1, Daniel 2 even Leonardo DiCaprio has left her... The most stupid thing is, that they quote friends (which are of course invented). I would wish, that germany would have more serious tabloids, with more current photos, and without photo-montages and invented stories!!
The Translation:
She looks depressed in these days. She has to force herself to every smile. Her eyes are reflecting the sadness of her soul. "No wonder" friends of the heir are saying..."once again Victoria has lost a big love." A long time the swedish princess hoped for a happy end between her and the greek prince Nicolaos (33). Both had a few years ago a romance and didn´t get away from each other since then. Whenever they met aroused their passion again. And when Victoria (25) felt bad/unsound, Nicolaos had always an open ear for her problems. But in the future it seems as if he can´t offer her a "shoulder for leaning" (<-german phrase), because Nicolaos seriously felt in love with a beautiful french girl. He avows himself to her in public, doesn´t hide his feelings, but stands for his relationship. "We can´t see us that often anymore" he said to Victoria on the phone. "Of course she has kept her countenance, but later she had to cry" told a friend of the crown princess ECHO DER FRAU. Around her all felt in love, are engaged or married. It´s seems as if Victoria would be the only one, who was forgotten of Amor. Sister Madeleine (20), Ex-boyfriend Daniel Collert, her girlfriends.....HERE IS THE ARTICLE CUT...the sad princess takes over even more official duties than before, she works more to detract herself from her loneliness. "Hope that she won´t become ill again" friends and relatives worry. "Victoria should meet her dream-prince, a man who takes it seriously with her. She has earned that happiness"
THE TEXT UNDER THE NICOLAOS-PICTURE: In casual wear Nicolaos and his girlfriend showed themselves to the public. In front of the noble boutique they smoked cigarettes before they did their shopping.

Jay has updated her new site and here is a link to the new pictures of Prince Nikolaos. I love that first photo. :) LINK: Nikolaos's Photos

OT: Not to be mean or anything, but I have an overwhelming desire to take some tweezers and some dye to Nik's eyebrows  In group photos playing Where's Waldo is easy...instead of trying to find a Gilligan striped shirt...just look for the bushy brows!!!!! There's Niko!!!! B) I still  him anyhow! His brows does add a "mysterious" look....anyway its not the brows that make a man!!! :winkiss: Brows or No Brows....He will always be sexy in my book!!!! :innocent:

This was posted at the Miller Sisters Message Board. What do you all think? Do you think we'll have a wedding next year?

Prince Nikolaos and Tatiana
Posted by Lia on 9/2/2003, 6:24 pm

Yesterday the couple visited a monastery at the island of Patmos with the ex-King and Queen!!Anna-Maria at the end of the visit kissed Tatiana and Constantine helped her get in the boat and kissed her as well.I think its becoming official.....Also the ex-king left by private boat for Athens and the prince with his girlfriend took a helocopter to come back to Athens.Nikolaos while in Patmos hurt his leg and today he visited a hospital to check if it is serious or not.I think they are leaving tomorrow but i'm not sure yet.I hope this is an interesting topic for discussion on our board.

Who is this Tatiana woman? And how long have she and Nikolaos known or been dating each other?

Let's hope it is a rumour about marriage!? and Besides, I thought Nikolaos wanted to marry a greek girl? .... Not to drop any names or anything.... but, I was born in Greece or more specifically Dodekanisos to a greek father..(my mother is hindu indian). Okay, so I am not fully Greek but half....Just hoping there is still a chance to marry my Prince Charming....

Good Ole' Nik....It seems partying is what he does best...and what is this talk about Nik being the 'revivalist' of the Greek royalty (is that why he is not married or waiting to be married... to find a suitable bride?...Or is he CP Victoria going to be the lucky girl, so he can be come the first 'king' of Sweden (instead of consort)?) ...What about Pavlos?? Granted the Greeks were upset about the so-called "spending cost"(They were miffed and still holding a grudge.) of the marriage to M-C Miller, but Pavlos is Crown-Prince. Lastly, What does Nik do for a living? Does he still work for his father as private-secretary or at a bank?(I do know that Nik is on the board of chairmans for the Hellenes College in London)....There was word in the media at the time that ex-King Constantine de Grecia was grooming Prince Nikolaos to be King of Greece, albeit an exiled one! Nik does look more "Grecian" of all the de Grecia children.
And, someone for heaven sakes give this family a more suitable last name (I can not tolerate that "Glucksburg" ....sounds like a noise birds make... Glucks, eww)!!!!! The "surname" they are using now is semi- better but still.....I can't see anyone going through modern-life with "de Grecia" or "of Greece" as a surname...I expected a "greek family" (...even though the Greek public and goverment doesn't perceive it that way!) to have a proper Grecian last name!!! :glare:

Very interesting. I was hoping he would keep his word and go for a Greek lady
hence bonding with the populace and gain their affection more (they love him
yes), and make it a real Greek wedding. I think, I read on another site from someone-I(no names provided) that he would do anything to gain his father's
affection and marry someone he does not love. His father wants him to only marry a girl with money, alot of money. But this time I was hoping he would see
it as counter productive and settle for a Greek girl with money. That is the catch.
Alot of Greek women get jealious and want a Greek girl-they do not like to see
non-Greeks with money and flashy, and yet I know some Greek women
who are flashy and with money, but anyhow...

THe source said in the end N. is weak and will cave in to please his father.
To gain the respect he can not gain as K.C. adores CP P more and shows it.
I do not know what it true-but I only pass this on from that other site the
Miller Sisters.

wow. thanks for telling me.

What does Nik do for a living? Does he still work for his father as private-secretary or at a bank?
I believe that he works at both....although, that could have changed

Prince Hidden Socialist Greek

By: WILLIAM CASH
(Thanks to the Royal Archive :flower: )

Prince Nikolaos of Greece may not use a surname but there is no
shortage of alternative soubriquets which you will not find mentioned
in his one-line entry in the Almanach de Gotha, the social bible of
European royalty. They include Best Traditional Greek Dancer in
Gstaad, Most Wanted Prince in London, and Biggest Babe Magnet in St Tropez. While serving as an army officer in the Royal Scots Dragoon
Guards, he was known in his mess just as Nick Constantine. When he
used to work at NatWest Bank in the City, switchboard operators and
receptionists were left constantly confused as to who the debonair
figure with immaculate manners but without a proper name (officially
he is Nikolaos Glucksburg) actually was.

Indeed, apart from the occasional gossip-column sighting, such as his
being seen walking hand in hand with Elle Macpherson, or dining with
Gwyneth Paltrow at Blakes Hotel, where he lives in a suite, Prince
Nikolaos remains one of the most enigmatic and elusive figures in
London society. Yet he has lived here apart from his time in the
States reading International Relations at Brown University, Rhode
Island, followed by an apprentice spell as a playboy working for Fox
TV in New York in the Nineties ever since his family moved to
Hampstead from Rome after the government officially abolished the
Greek monarchy in 1974. The Greek Royals had been forced into exile
in Italy when the Greek colonels seized power in the military coup of
21 April 1967, two years before he was born.

Nikolaos was brought up not in a royal palace but rather a
comfortable Sixties redbrick family house in Hampstead Garden Suburb where posters of football players and supermodels were stuck to the walls of his bedroom and that of his older brother, Crown Prince Pavlos, who's now married to Marie-Chantal Miller, the daughter of American duty-free tycoon Robert Miller. Their July 1995 wedding with glittering parties at Hampton Court Palace and Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire (the setting for Gosford Park) was the royal wedding of the decade, bagging the biggest collection of Euro bluebloods in Britain since the wedding of Charles and Diana in 1981.

Nikolaos, however, remains very much unmarried. He has a reputation
as a man-about-town that makes Tim Jefferies seem like a Greek
Orthodox monk. He is, indeed, shortly to head off to another season
of summer pleasure in St Tropez, where he is a regular in the
upstairs VIP bar at Les Caves du Roi nightclub at the Htel Byblos. To
date, the young Greek prince has kept his head down with the women he has either dated or been linked with. In addition to Paltrow and Macpherson (apparently just friends), the list includes Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, whom he met in Oslo at Crown Prince Haakon's wedding in 2001, and Sabrina Ramsay, the beautiful half- Brazilian, half-French stepdaughter of millionaire London property magnate Elliot Bernerd. While at Brown, he wasn't a frat-house party boy but went out for most of his time there with a Greek girl also at the university.

That so little is known about him is largely thanks to the jealously
guarded protection Nikolaos receives from the tight group of close
friends, confidants, sycophants and Euro-royal hangers-on who make up his personal court. His circle in London includes the Persian playboy set and scions of the big Greek billionaire shipping clans who have helped the exiled Greek Royals, such as Dimitri Goulandris, the 36- yearold Cambridge-educated banker son of shipping magnate John Goulandris.

Then, of course, there are Nikolaos's ties with the British Royal
Family. He wasn't just another guest at Prince William's 21st;
Nikolaos was very much invited as a close member of the family.

Prince Charles is godfather to his brother Pavlos and Prince Philip,
after all, is King Constantine's cousin, and was born at the royal
summer palace of Mon Repos on Corfu.

Known in royal circles as 'Tino', 63-year-old King Constantine is
godfather to Prince William; Prince William is godfather to Prince
Konstantine Alexios, son of Crown Prince Pavlos, and the Queen is
godmother to Nikolaos's youngest sister Theodora (he has four
siblings: Alexia, 37, Pavlos, 36, Theodora, 19, and Philippos, 17).

Although King Constantine refuses to admit it, it is widely believed
that he was the private ' intermediary' who helped the Queen accept
Camilla Parker Bowles. Indeed, it was at Constantine's 60th-birthday
party at Highgrove back in 2000 that the Queen and Camilla were
reintroduced after a gap of several decades. Nikolaos is, of course,
privy to such royal secrets. Yet the silence that surrounds the Greek
prince in London society circles compares with the omertlike code
that Prince William's friends are bound by on pain of immediate
expulsion.

'For somebody who has never even stepped foot in Greece, he is very
Greek,' says Taki Theodoracopoulos, The Spectator's Greek High Life
columnist, himself married to an Austrian princess and a long-time
friend of the exiled Royal Family. 'Nikolaos is extremely
goodlooking, which is quite annoying, and he is completely one of the
boys. He likes women and is extremely popular with them. But he is
not stiff like the ghastly Belgian Royals. He is Greek in a way we
call mangas, which means somebody who is upper-class but can mix with anybody.

He knows both how to behave in Buckingham Palace and the ways of the street. Every time I see him, he puts me in a good mood, although I know that if he was out of the way, I would be getting a lot more beautiful girls in my bed.' When I rang people up, Prince Nikolaos's famous looks were invariably the first thing they mentioned. His bushy dark eyebrows were described to me by one girl as 'silky and thick as a grenadier's bearskin' and his head of tousled dark hair makes Hugh Grant look like John Malkovich. Certainly, I know his looks have caught the attention of society doyen Nicky Haslam. One evening at Noble Rot, the louchely decadent Mayfair restaurant and members' club, Haslam spotted Nikolaos dining at a table with his cousin Prince Felipe of Spain. Close by was Prince Emmanuel of Savoy. 'My goodness,' Haslam was overheard exclaiming. 'Three princes in the same room. And all so good-looking especially Nikolaos.' :innocent:
