On this day, December 2, 1804 ~ Napoleon was crowned Emperor of the French at Notre Dame Cathedral

The following year the French empire would be re-established with Louis as Emperor Napoleon III. Louis' father was Napoleon's younger brother Louis (King of Holland at one time) and his mother was Josephine's daughter Hortense.

1723- death of Philipe II, Duke of Orleans. He was a nephew of Louis XIV (his father was Loui's younger brother Philipe). He married his first cousin, his Uncle Louis' daughter Francois, the child of his mistress Madam de Montespan. Philippe would later serve as regent for Louis XV until he came of age.

The body of Philippe Duke d'Orléans , Regent of France was buried at St Denis and his heart at l'église du Val-de-Grâce,both burials were desecrated in 1793.

On this day, December 3, 1368 ~ Birth of King Charles VI of France in Paris, France
 
Charles was born at l'Hotel Saint-Pol in Paris which was at that time a royal residence which was later abandoned and sold off by King Francis I. Located beside it was l'église Saint-Paul-des-Champs .The church was closed in 1793 and demolished in 1799,nothing now remains of either.
 
On this day, December 5, 1560 ~ Demise of Francis II, King of France. He was the first husband of Mary, Queen of Scots.

1489- Birth of Gaston of Foix, Duke of Nemours. His mother Marie D'Orleans was the elder sister of Louis XII of France (both children of Charles, Duke of Orleans who was a grandson of Charles V of France). Gaston had one older sister Germaine who was the second wife of Ferdinand of Aragon. He was a well known French military commander. He died in 1512 in the Battle of Ravenna in Italy.


1508- death of Renee II, Duke of Lorraine. In 1528 his son Claude was made Duke of Guise (first person not a prince of the blood to be made a duke in the French peerage). Claude was the father of Mary of Guise, wife of James V of Scotland making Renee the great-grandfather of Mary, Queen of Scots. Renee was Duke of Bar, inherited it from his maternal grandfather. He also inherited a claim to the throne of Naples and Jeruselum from his mother Yolande. Naples instead was claimed by Charles VIII.

Renee II, Duke of Lorraine was buried at l'Église des Cordeliers de Nancy which was the ducal burial site ,his wife Philippa de Gueldre joined him there in 1547.
Sadly the Ducal tombs were desecrated in 1793 during the Revolution.
 
On this day, December 12, 1791 ~ Birth of Marie Louise of Austria, Empress of France. She was the second spouse of Emperor Napoleon I.
 
884 Death of Carloman II, King of West Frankia. He died in a hunting accident. With his death, his throne was inherited by his cousin Charles the fat, who reunited the Carolignian empire finally.

At time of his birth he was not destined to be King of France ,the son of Jeanne d'Albret and Antoine de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme was named in honour of his maternal grandfather ,Henri II of Navarre.

His godparents at his Roman Catholic baptism were :

Henri II de Navarre (Grandfather)
Henri II de France
Catherine de Médicis
Isabeau d'Albret,Viscountess de Rohan (Great aunt)

The ceremony was carried out by his paternal uncle,the Cardinal de Bourbon.

Maria and Henri were married by proxy at the Duomo in Florence in October 1600,the bride came with a dowry of 600,000 crowns which was welcome news to a bankrupt French Monarchy.

Henri's 1st marriage to Marguerite de Valois was dissolved in December 1599.
 
On this day, December 19, 1778 ~ Birth of Princess Marie Therese Charlotte, the daughter of King Louis XVI. She was the wife of Louis Antoine, Duke of Angouleme.
 
Marie-Thérèse de France, Duchess of Angoulême was also the last Madame Royale of France.
 
On this day,21st December 1549 -Death of Marguerite d'Angoulême,queen of Navarre,sister of king François I and mother of Jeanne d'Albret. The Queen died at Odos and was buried at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Lescar.

On this day, December 27, 1663 ~ Demise of Christine Marie of France, Duchess of Savoy. She was the daughter of King Henry IV of France and the wife of Victor Amadeus I, Duke of Savoy.
 
On this Day,1st of January 1496 ,Death of Charles d'Orléans,Count of Angoulême who was the father of the future,King François Ier of France.The Count was buried at Angoulême Cathedral of Saint-Pierre his remains presumed lost were rediscovered in a vault in 2011 alongside his parents.The Cathedral had been ransacked by Huguenots in the 1560's and again during the French Revolution.

1st January 1387,Death of Charles II of Navarre,Count of Évreux at Pamplona in Navarre.Known as Charles the Bad he was accidentally burnt alive having been wrapped in a brandy soaked sheet to help him with an ailment which went up in flames when his valet approached with a light candle.The Kings remains were buried at Pamploma Cathedral whilst his heart was buried at Santa María de Ujué.

The double murder of the Duke and Cardinal de Guise at the Château de Blois,on December 23rd is believed to have hastened Catherine's death as the queen mother was filled with dread over her sons double murderous deed.

Louis XII died at the Hôtel des Tournelles in Paris he was succeeded by his cousin and son in law François I er .

On this day, January 9, 1514 ~ Demise of Anne of Brittany. She was the Queen Consort of King Charles VIII and of King Louis XII.

On this day, January 10, 1810 ~ Emperor Napoleon I divorced his first wife Josephine. :napoleon::napoleon::napoleon:
 
On this day, January 9, 1514 ~ Demise of Anne of Brittany. She was the Queen Consort of King Charles VIII and of King Louis XII.


Queen Anne died on January 9th, 1514 at the Château de Blois ,whilst her remains were buried at St Denis her heart was buried at her parents tomb at the Couvent des Carmes de Nantes.The Convent was ransacked by Revolutionary mobs in 1793 but the reliquary was saved from destruction.The remains of the convent were demolished in the early 1800's.

January 11, 1395 -Birth of Michelle de Valois,daughter of Charles VI of France and Isabeau of Bavaria .Michelle became Duchess of Burgundy upon her marriage to Philippe le Bon , Duke of Burgundy in 1409.
