Prince Nikolaus (1947- ), Princess Margaretha (1957- ) and Family: October 2004-

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
von und zu= "of". The Liechtenstein royals use this as their nobility particle. Some German royal houses simply say "zu", for example, Prinz zu Reuss. Literally it means "of and too".
Same thing with "de", it means of in French. So Guillaume de Luxembourg means Guillaume of Luxembourg.

The particular birthdays of Princess Margaretha and her children

It seems that the fifth month of the year, May, is in the estate of Princess Margaretha! See how strange:

Princess Margaretha was born the 15th May 1957

Princesse Maria Anunciata was born the 12th May 1985

Prince Josef-Emanuel was born the 7th May 1989

(Prince Leoplod-Emanuel was born the 20th May 1984) (but he died the same day!)

Only Princess Marie Astrid with the birthday on 26th June 1987 is an exception, although the June is not far away from the May.

The May is the month of fertility, and brings luck und love. I wish Princess Margaretha and her family that this proverb will be true for their whole lifes!:)

Part X Newest Pictures of 3d October 2004

On 3d October 2004 there was the beatfication of the Emperor Karl of Habsburg (17.8.1887-1.4.1922) and former Emperor of Austria (1916-1922). Among the guests were Princess Margaretha and her husband Nikolaus von und zu Liechtenstein with their children Princess Maria Anunciata, Princess Marie Astrid and Prince Josef-Emanuel.

The reason they were present on the beatification ceremony in the Vatican is because of the relationship to the Habsburg family. Princess Margaretha's sister Marie Astrid is married with Carl-Christian of Habsburg (a descendant of Karl of Habsburg).

1. Prince Nikolaus on the beatfication ceremony
2. The family on the beatification ceremony (from left to right): Maria Anunciata (19 years), Marie Astrid (17 years), Josef-Emanuel (15 years), mother Margaretha (47 years) and father Nikolaus (57 years)

Here end my photo series of Princess Margaretha's children. It is really difficult to find pictures of them. So if you have some more of them, please post them in this thread!;)

The children of Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein; Maria Anunciata (19), Marie Astrid (18), Joseph-Emmanuel (15) were also present at the funeral.
Princess Maria Anunciata (eldest daughter of Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein) was speaking her prayer in English: Mother of God, look for all the victims of the terrible tsunami desaster which deeply moved our grandmother. Keep watch of the whose who are struggeling and suffering and of the whose who are suffering from their family they lost there. May you bring them all hope and peace!

PS: I will post pictures of Princess Margaretha and Prince Nikolaus at the funeral tomorrow

I think German, maybe French.

It's German. They, however, much like the Austrians, speak an odd dialect of it.

I think in Liechtenstein they speak a dialect of Upper German, which is probably related to Swiss German??? (since Switzerland is just next door). By the way, drimal, what form of German do you speak in Luxembourg? :)

Luxembourgish is a very "low" language and with no melodie in it so for example the dull "ë" as in "Lëtzebuerg"is pronounced what is very unusual for a language.;)
Due to that most Luxembourger speaks German with no melodie and you hear immediately the dialect (the Dutch have similar problems but not in the fway the Luxembourger have). I'm sometimes ashamed if I hear Luxembourgish ministers talking such a "low" German. I think most people have scruples to speek correct German becuase of the Second World War.;)

In Liechtenstein you speek (as in Switzerland) the typical "Switzerdütch" a very melodic dialect with a funny pronounciation on the "r" which is pronounced in a long way. Some people in Germany laugh down that language but I find it so funny and "folkloric". Some older people in Switzerland and Liechtenstein speek the old "Switzerdütch" and although I'm good at German it is hard to understand because there are alot of differences.

In "Switzerdütch" you greet with: "Grützi all mittenand.":D

PS: By the way to you know that the national anthem of Liechtenstein is similar to the English but the text is different.;)

Wow, thanks for your very informative answer, drimal! :) :) I think it's very interesting how there are so many differences (in intonation especially) across dialects of German. I would like hear Luxembourgish one day, even though you say it is not a very melodious language! Australian accents aren't either really - we typically speak in a very "flat", nasal way.
By the way, I have heard the music (but not the words) for the Liechtenstein national anthem - I thought I was hearing the English one by mistake! :D

It was the wedding of Princess Margherita of Austria (daughter of Prince Michael & Princess Christiane) and Count Benedikt von Piatti (son of Count Manfred & Countess Mechthildis Maria - née Princess of Austria).

Pictures of Princess Margaretha and her family of 1.7.1997

I think that I have already posted some of the following pictures here, but the pictures of Princess Margaretha (alone, and with her husband) were missing.

On the pictures you see Princess Margaretha and her husband Prince Nikolaus and the children Princess Maria Anunciata, Princess Marie Astrid and Prince Josef- Emmanuel von und zu Liechtenstein.

In the background you see their house in Brussels, where Prince Nikolaus is the Liechtenstein Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

i love the way the girls dress the same all the time. i wonder if they always dressed like that

I read in a magazine that Philip Niarchos (Stavros Niarchos's father) is trying to set Princess Maria Anunciata or Princess Marie-Astrid of Liechtenstein up with Stavros. Who are these princesses and does anybody have any photos of them? Thanks!

They are the two daughters of Prince Nikolaus and Princess Margaretha (neé of Luxembourg). Princess Marie Annunciata was born in 1985 and Princess Marie Astrid was born in 1987.

Here is a pic of the family, including Prince Josef-Emanuel (b 1989), from 2004. Courtesy SeegerPress.
