Sultan ends State Visit to Malaysia

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam ended a four-day State Visit to Malaysia with the fervent hope that close ties can be maintained through an exchange of visits.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pg Anak Hjh Saleha's last State Visit to Malaysia was in 1997, while His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah visited Brunei Darussalam in August 2002.

His Majesty ended the State Visit with a farewell audience yesterday afternoon at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur, making a courtesy call to His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah.

Also present at the ceremony were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam, Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datin Seri Endon, the Deputy Prime Minister and wife as well as other cabinet ministers, RTB reported.

Is it just me or is the sultan more strict about who his daughters marry? as opposed to his sons I mean.
Princess Azemah did date a non-muslim from Brunei for a couple of years before she went to Uk for her studies. Well I think the Sultan is strict with both his sons and daughters, all he wants is what's best for them I guess, not to get hurt and all, from a dad's point of view that is.

Science College students visit Jerudong Prison, Rumah Al-Islah

By Azaraimy & Hj Minor Absah

Forty-nine students from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, including Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pg Anak Isteri Pg Anak Sarah, made trips yesterday to Jerudong Prison and Rumah Al-Islah in Muara.

The visits were to provide the Upper Sixth Formers with more knowledge on current issues which are included in their General Paper syllabus of Drugs and Antibiotics.

Amongst the students were members of the Science College's newly established Basmida called A'DruMS (Anti-Drugs Maktab Sains Club) who were interested to see rehabilitation centres in the Sultanate.

The group was greeted at Jerudong Prison by its Director Hj Ahmad Hj Dullah. They were given a briefing there by Officer Hj Zainal Hj Ismail on its functions and roles.

They were then taken to visit several of its male and female divisions before seeing a caning demonstration and inmates' handicraft products. In the afternoon, the students visited Al-Islah in Muara, where they were briefed by Officer Hj Mohd Sigie Al-Islam Uja on the institution's functions and roles. They also witnessed first-hand daily activities and programmes as well as its facilities and amenities.

Royalty at PRYNSA award ceremony
By Helena M. Mahathir

The Royal Patron of the Princess Rashidah Young Nature Scientist Award (PRYNSA), Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, graced yesterday the award ceremony for the seventh edition of PRYNSA.

Accompanying HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah was HRH Princess Hjh Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah.

The ceremony took place at the Dewan Setia Pahlawan, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources Building.

Also in attendance were the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abd Rahman and the Acting Permanent Secretary, Awg Hj Mohd Zain, as well as foreign dignitaries and senior government officials.

A welcoming speech was given by Awg Hj Saidin bin Salleh, Director of Forestry and Chairman of the organising committee, who urged current and future PRYNSA participants to grab every opportunity that comes to them through the programme, as the programme involves considerable amount of time and money that should never be taken for granted.

Awg Hj Saidin highlighted the good values that can be enhanced by participation in PRYNSA such as self-confidence, leadership, courage and teamwork. "These are some of the good values that our future generation must have for the development of our economic, social and environmental benefit in the future," he said.

For this year's PRYNSA, a total of 24 schools had submitted their project proposals. Out of this number, only the top five were chosen to compete in yesterday's final presentation.

The finalists were Pengiran Jaya Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar Secondary School, Sayyiddina Ali Secondary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Secondary School, PDS School and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College.

The announcement of the top three teams was made shortly after the completion of the final presentation.

HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah consented to present the winners with their prizes - PDS School came in first place, followed by Sayyiddina Ali Secondary School in second and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College in third.

The winning team received a cash prize of $3,000 and the challenge trophy, while the runner-up and second runner-up received $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.

HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah then viewed a mini exhibition put up by the students.

PRYNSA was first organised in 1997 and is supported by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP).

PRYNSA competition is open to all secondary schools and aims to nurture excellence among the younger generation especially in the field of natural sciences.

The five finalists carried out their fieldwork during the school holidays, while the written reports were judged by a panel of judges led by the Forestry Department.

The judging panel is made up of experts, both international and local, in the various fields of natural sciences.

The Queen always dresses like that.
The Crown Princess's outfits are refreshing though. Thankfully she dresses simpler and more appropriate for her age.
