Yes, now the Argentinians have a "holy" trinity-Pope Francis I,CP Maxima and football-deity Lionel Messi
They can be truly proud of them!

Albert II of Monaco is a Roman Catholic Sovereign, his consort wore white to a recent Papal audience with Pope BXVI but wore black to today's ceremony. It was announced at the time that she had been granted the Privilège du blanc.

The Princess consort of Liechtenstein also RC currently does not have this traditional privilege.

So what I'm saying is that is not accorded to the wives of all Reigning Monarchs/Princes,only to some Roman Catholic one's.

You can see the Duke on picture 49 of the Zimbio gallery.

I wonder whether Princess Charlene wore black because of the solemnity of the occassion / because it was a Mass and chooses White for an official visit or meeting with the Pope?

That's a possibility, maybe she'll only wear white at official Papal audiences.

Nikolaos and Margaretha of Liechtenstein are there as well. Nikolaos is a non-resident ambassador to the Holy See.

For a Pope's inauguration only the RH may wear "the blanc". The Princesses of Liechtenstein and Monaco are SH and in black.
Queen Sophia attended 3 Pope's inaugurations in blanc.
Sad that she was not allowed to go this time with the Crown Princes she should be "in blanc" again.

How come was not she allowed to attend ?
Maybe she had previous engagements and she asked her son and daughter in law to represent the Spanish Royal Family.
