I've asked the same question many times. Certainly most Muslim royalty makes the same claim. But so do many non-royals. They all have family trees to prove their descent. It is certainly a matter of great honour for people who make such claims. But in the process I find that the name of the Prophet (pbuh) gets exploited, certainly in the case of the average person out there who goes around saying they're descended from the Prophet. I can tell you that it is a common claim among non-royal Muslims, no matter where they live.
I think in the end, there's no point in dwelling on such things.
If the Malaysian, or any other Muslim royals, say they're descended from the Prophet, then I think one should just take their word for it. Because there's no absolute way of proving it wrong or right. Family trees can be faked or contaminated. But who is to know for sure.
The Jordanian Hashemite dynasty, for example, has a strong historical claim which is quite legitimate. I remember reading about it in my Islamic history class.

Default Sultan Brunei will visit Malaysia tomorrow

It has been announced here that HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and HM Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha of Brunei will begin 4 day State Visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow. Here is the full news courtesy of Bernama.

Sultan Of Brunei On Four-day State Visit To Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei will make a four-day state visit to Malaysia beginning Wednesday.

A Wisma Putra statement here says that the visit is at the invitation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail in reciprocating the King's visit to Brunei in August 2002.

The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance the close relations shared by the two countries.

Sultan Hassanal will be accompanied by his wife, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.

He will be accorded a state welcome at Parliament Square and will attend a state banquet at Istana Negara on Thursday.

Among the places that he will visit are the Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, Terendak Camp in Melaka and the National Service Training Camp in Semenyih.

The sultan, whose last state visit here was in August 1997, will also meet Brunei students studying in Malaysia.

Sultan of Brunei gets royal welcome on state visit to Malaysia

Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah received a red-carpet welcome in Malaysia on Thursday during his first state visit here in nearly eight years.

Hassanal, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur late Wednesday, was accorded an official welcome by King Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and other Cabinet ministers at Malaysia's Parliament.

The Royal Malay Regiment fired a 21-cannon salute in honor of the sultan, who also inspected a military honor guard before meeting with government officials and diplomats at the ceremony.

He later held a 30-minute meeting with Abdullah, the national news agency Bernama reported, but no details of the courtesy call or topics discussed were available. The sultan's four-day visit, which comes at the invitation of the king, is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the neighbors. His last state visit to Malaysia was in August 1997.

Here are some old pictures of Queen Elizabeth II's State Visit to Malaysia in 1998 during the reign of King Tuanku Jaafar. This visit was also in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur 16th Commonwealth Games at that time. Truly miss these good old days....for the first time I watched the Queen live on Malaysian national tv
