Government hosts state banquet in honour of Thai Princess

BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) - The government will host a state banquet in honour of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the auspicious occasion of her being awarded the prestigeous 2004 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said during his weekly radio addresss Saturday that the state occasion would be held at the Government House Sunday evening.

"It's a world honour for personalities who devote themselves to society, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn is a world celebrity, which is a great honour to theThai kingdom," said the Thai leader.

"Other winners of the honour include former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, former US president Jimmy Carter, former Irish president Mary Robinson and incumbent UN Secretary General Kofi Annan," Mr. Thaksin noted.

Princess in print

Thai Princess Ubolratana released Tuesday (Jan 24) a quarterly magazine To Be Number One in a bid to strengthen her anti-drug campaign among teenagers under the same name.

She said the publication would be a major communication tool among members. “Every (To Be Number One) member owns the magazine,” said the princess

A brainchild project of Princess Ubolratana, the To Be Number One project was started in July, 2002. So far, it has some 29 million members around the country. The princess has been heavily involved with the project and the launch of the magazine is her latest contribution.

“His Majesty The King is so pleased with the To Be Number One project. He once told me that if possible, he’d love to visit the project in all the provinces,” said the princess.

“I haven’t written anything in the debut issue but I’ll have my own column in the future. It will be called “Talk to the Princess”, which allows members to write to me and ask any questions,” said the princess.

She said she believed enhancing communication could solve many teenage problems. “Family problems can put pressure on teens and they should be able to voice their feelings and opinions.”

Her name is Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Somdetceh Phra Debaratanarajasuda is her title.

nope.. :)

she is the youngest daughter to the King. :)
however, comparing to her other siblings (even to the crown prince), she is the most dedicated and hard-working. that is why Thai people adore her very much. she initiates a lot of royal projects that benefit the people.
and personally, i would like to see her as heir to the throne rather than her brother.

I have another question, according to wikipedia, the king & queen have 4 children, 1 styled crownprince, 1 styled crownprincess & 2 styled princess.. but isn't the crownprince married, and wouldn't this make his wife crownprincess...
