Apparantly, Mrs Blair was in the Vatican giving a speech to seminarians when she got a message saying that the Pope could see her for 10 minutes but she'd have to go there and then so really, she didn't have time to change. It was just unfortunate that she happened to be wearing white on that day. I loathe the woman but she was in the right on this occassion.

But maybe officials should have a black mantilla and some sort of overdress ready for a case like that, because it is not pleasant for the guest to be confronted with the pictures of such a faux pas.

The thing is, Cherie would have had a black outfit with her just in case something happened in the UK and she had to come back in black.
