A beautiful woman we do not hear enough about

She faced a great deal in the decades of her marriage. Exile to China and North Korea twice. House arrest by the Khmer Rouge which was described by her late husband as living every day waiting to be executed (they likely only survived due to China's constant interest in their welfare). Over a dozen members of the royal household disappeared, including 5 princes/sses and are suspected to have died in the killing fields.

She does a great deal for charity in her country. Building hospitals and schools.

She faced a great deal in the decades of her marriage. Exile to China and North Korea twice. House arrest by the Khmer Rouge which was described by her late husband as living every day waiting to be executed (they likely only survived due to China's constant interest in their welfare). Over a dozen members of the royal household disappeared, including 5 princes/sses and are suspected to have died in the killing fields.

She does a great deal for charity in her country. Building hospitals and schools.

Princess Norodom Pongsoriya had a successful graduation in Bachelor’s Degree in International Politics from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China. Princess Norodom Pongsoriya is the daughter of Prince Norodom Chakrapong, and also the niece of the current King Norodom Sihamoni.

Nice to see three generations together even if stepmother/son

The pictures though exemplify the great age differences in the family. Looking at the Queen mother and her stepson, they look nearly of age. He is only 9 yeas younger then his stepmother. And then his children and granddaughter look like they could be siblings. But his children range in age from 20-54 (the two in the photos being his youngest).

Prince Norodom Yuveneath has died in the morning on 14 January in Connecticut, United States of America, at the age of 77. Prince Norodom Yuvaneath was the eldest son of King Norodom Sihanouk and Princess Sisowath Pongsanmoni. He was the half-brother of the current King Norodom Sihamoni.

It was more then simply a home while her husband was receiving medical care.

The Queen Mother and her husband owed their lives to China. When they were put under house arrest in 1976 (for three years) they lived in a constant state of 'preparing to be executed' (the king's words). It was only the continued interest in their well being made by the state of China which kept them alive. When the family was denied assylm by the US when they were exiled in 1979, China provided it to them.


The king lost 5 children and 14 grandchildren to the Killing Fields. Only by the grace of God and the mercy of Chinese interest, were the Queen Mother and her husband also not lost to the genocide.


So no doubt friendship with Beijing will remain important to her till she dies.

The late king had 14 children. There are only four left, including the king. The current king has 2 half brothers and one half sister left.
