Addressing the Parliament of Bhutan on 20 May 2011 The King made the Royal Wedding announcement:

“As a King, it is now time for me to marry. After much thought I have decided that the wedding shall be later this year.

Now, many will have their own idea of what a Queen should be like – that she should be uniquely beautiful, intelligent and graceful. I think with experience and time, one can grow into a dynamic person in any walk of life with the right effort. For the Queen, what is most important is that at all times, as an individual she must be a good human being, and as Queen, she must be unwavering in her commitment to serve the People and Country.

As my queen, I have found such a person and her name is Jetsun Pema. While she is young, she is warm and kind in heart and character. These qualities together with the wisdom that will come with age and experience will make her a great servant to the nation.

This union does not mean that I am starting my own family. From the very day I received the Dhar Ngay-Nga from the sacred Machhen, the people of the 20 Dzongkhags became my family. Such is the duty and privilege of all Kings of Bhutan. It is through this union, that I shall have a Queen who will support, and work with me, as I serve the People and Country.”

A beautiful black and white portrait of the King and Queen by Sonam Tshering!!

Happy November!!!

The November Calendar on Yellow features a picture of Gasa Tashi Thongmon Dzong.
Tashi Thongmon Dzong is named after the protective deity of the region, and has strong connections to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. First built in the 1650s, the Dzong has been renovated and expanded several times over the years, including an extensive renovation project that concluded this year.

No December calendar? The official facebook pages are not being updated as well. I wonder what happened, we often saw regular updates such as celebrations, month calendar and engagements. But it's been quite quiet for a while now...

Thanks kathia sophia who reminded me the December Calendar! I had completely forgotten it!

They were quite active on Facebook, now it's almost no update on events.

I realized with all the talk of social media I had missed the Bhutan royal calendar for April. Stunning photo :flowers:

I love the photos of the country but I also love when they feature their son. Such cute glimpses of him. These calendars are such a great idea for both.

This month’s calendar is a tribute to His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who was born on May 2nd, 1928.
His Majesty is known as the Architect of Modern Bhutan- after years of isolation while the world went through wars and conflict, Bhutan finally began to open its doors to the outside world, and the foundations for modern Bhutan were laid down.
