Cute photo of the prince visiting his daddy at his office ;)

Such a sharp contrast to the European royals and the opulent offices/housing they have.

Lovely photos on facebook as well. I always love seeing events in Bhutan, the country is stunning and I love the glimpses we get of the culture.

The King celebrates his 38th Birthtday today with the Queen and the little Prince visited Taktshang monastery to offer prayers. Considered one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country, the temple complex surrounding the scared cave where Guru Rinpoche meditated in the 8th century, has been built by various Buddhist masters over the centuries.

What a beautiful picture!!

Congratulations to the royal couple. I wish them good fortune and happiness in the great land of smiles and kingdom of the thunder dragon, I really do think that last part is a rather awesome thing about Bhutan.

It is interesting that at events english is always used alongside the national language of Bhutan.

Jetsun Pema looks lovely as always, but I don't think the baby blue blouse and pink skirt goes well with the red scarf, maybe a more neutral color scarf would be ideal (but I know that the red scarf symbolizes her royal position, maybe she shouldn't have worn one, sometimes she doesn't).

The rachu is worn as a sign of respect. They are worn when attending official events, going to temple or meeting high officials. The queen not wearing her rachu would have been out of place at such an event.

Unlike men, there is no specific colors for ranks in women. Red though is predominately worn by the queen and wealthier women, it isn't restricted as it would be with men. Men's scarves each class has a specific color.

Its more of a sign of respect, then being concerned about fashion here.

Today on 10 May The King attends at the inauguration of the 77 km Gyalpozhing-Nganglam Highway. His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness the Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

:previous: Thanks for the photos :flowers:

But the man accompanying the king is not Prince Gyaltshab, he is simply The Gyaltshab. It is a title, not a name. It means the king's representative/regent. Prince Dorji is the king's only full brother. Just as the little crown prince isn't Prince Gyalsey, he is simply The Gyalsey. Its a title like Prince of Wales.

Happy June!! Happy Summer!!

The June calendar features Gangteng Monastery in Gangtey, Wangdiphodrang, which overlooks the glacial valley of Phobjikha. The monastery, first built by the grandson of Terton Pema Lingpa in the 17th century, is the most important Centre of the Peling Tradition. The picturesque valley of Phobjikha is known for being home to the endangered black-necked cranes in winter.

I usually love/prefer the family photos they release for calendar, but that temple is stunning. Love the photo.

I love the further photos from facebook. This is such an incredible country and I love seeing glimpses of it. I love the tradition of planting trees on the anniversary of the coronation of his father, that it was made a tree planting holiday. Such a wonderful tradition.

Happy birthday to her majesty :flowers:
