At a ceremony held later to mark the start of "Japan Week 2017," Mako noted that the king and queen were the first state guests to Japan following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

Recalling that the royal couple visited Fukushima Prefecture, site of a triple meltdown at a nuclear power plant, and met with disaster victims, Mako said the king's comments at that time "were an encouragement to the people in the affected areas and remain in the hearts of the Japanese people."

She wore a yellow kimono with embroidered pine trees, plum blossoms and chrysanthemums for her visit to the Tashichho Dzong, which houses both government agencies and a Buddhist monastery, to pay a courtesy call on Bhutan's royal couple.

[…] Mako passed on a message from Emperor Akihito in which he expressed his hope that the goodwill between Japan and Bhutan would further progress on the occasion of the Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition that is now under way.

Japan Week 2017 is an event co-sponsored by the Japanese Embassy to introduce various aspects of Japanese culture to Bhutan.

She wore an aquamarine kimono for the opening ceremony at a Thimphu hotel that was attended by Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, 23, a younger sister of the king, and 90 or so Bhutanese government officials.

Mako, speaking in English, said, "I hope that this event will provide an opportunity for the people of Bhutan to feel close to Japan."

During her speech, Mako mentioned the 1997 visit to Bhutan by her parents, Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko, and said, "the strong impression I gained of the national flag with its dragon, the beautiful traditional costumes and the smiles of the people led me to hope that I would have the chance to visit Bhutan myself some day."

Known as Dasho Nishioka throughout the country, Late Dasho Keiji Nishioka was sent to Bhutan by the Japanese Government as an agriculture expert in 1964. Ever since, he started working in Bondey Agriculture Farm, he brought about major developments in farming that has changed the livelihood of Bhutanese farmers. Being visionary and farsighted, Dasho not only imparted new knowledge and skills in farming, but also initiated the establishment of three agriculture centers such as Agriculture Machinery Centre, National Seed Centre and National Post Harvest Centre to provide required services throughout the country. Dasho continued to stay in Bhutan after his two-year assignment period and worked in the country for 28 years until 1992.

In 1980, His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo awarded the red-scarf and conferred the title of Dasho to him in recognition of his selfless and dedicated services to the people of Bhutan in the field of agriculture development. His Majesty also blessed Dasho Nishioka with Druk Thuksey medal in 1990. Dasho Nishioka is the only foreigner to receive the title of Dasho.

He is the most adorable royal baby/toddler! Although that is no surprise given how gorgeous his parents are.

Aw, little Jigme looks super cute and happy! He also has changed so much since we last saw a photo of him, suddenly he looks a lot more grown up. His little stethoscope is adorable and it's cute that they included it in the photo.

Such a cute photo. I love we get these personal photos every month (well almost as we got beautiful elephants last).

I do wish we'd see this with other royal kids. Good way to get an update without being intrusive.

I somehow missed the latest photos of little Jigme so am just seeing them now, but he's growing up so fast! I love his sweet smile.

He is soooooooooo cute!
He looks a lot like his paternal grandfather

I wonder when he becomes an older brother.

Not the liitle Prince this time, but Happy October we have all !!!!

October is a festive month, with the Tshechus mostly falling on this month, as well as the Hindu festivals of Dassain and Tewar. The festivities are made all the more special as this month marks the Royal Wedding Anniversary on the 13th.
This month’s calendar, featuring a picture from the Dassain celebration at Lingkana Palace, is dedicated to the festive season, and to the values of familial togetherness, with many blessings and good wishes for all.
