The wives of the princes of Luxembourg can't receive the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau, if king Willem-Alexander and grand duke Henri don't change the rules of conferring the Order

From website of the Dutch Royal House
The King and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg are joint Grand Masters of the Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau. They may confer decorations in this Order separately or together. The Order symbolises the unity and solidarity between the two branches of the House of Nassau. There is only one class: Knight. Princes and Princesses born into the two branches, and the sons, daughters, brothers and sisters of the heads of both branches are Knights of the Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau from birth. The Order may be conferred on sovereigns and members of other royal houses, and also on individuals with the title of ‘Excellency’ if they have earned a distinguished international reputation.

From Wikipedia
Awarded for Luxembourg: sovereigns, princes of sovereign houses and heads of state for meritorious service to the Grand Duke and country
Princes who are sons or brothers of the heads of the two lines of the House of Nassau are born knights of the order. In 1984, Queen Beatrix and Grand Duke Jean made an agreement that princesses (daughters of the heads of the two lines of the House of Nassau) may be admitted when they reach the age of majority (18).

I think it's always been that way. Josephine-Charlotte and Maria Teresa received the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau when their husbands succeeded.

Even daughters aren't treated equally. They only get the Order at 18 whereas sons are born members.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, simply the current policy. Since the order is shared with the Dutch, any changes need agreement from both royal houses.

According the Statutes of the Order in the Golden Lion of the House Nassau, children of the Head of the House of Nassau (Luxembourg) or children of the Head of the House Orange-Nassau (Netherlands) have the Order by birthright (but only wear it from the age of 18).

Also in other monarchies we see differences with spouses. Diana had and Catherine has no any British Order at all (I consider the RFO more as a private token of appreciation than as an Order.).

That Princess Alexandra has this Order has nothing to do with hard work or an exemplaric royal life. She already had it when she took her first breath. Likewise we may say that a Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy turned into a Princess Stéphanie just got the Order of Adolphe de Nassau for being the wife of.

I think we may expect the Golden Lion after the birth of a future Heir. Or when Prince Guillaume becomes the Grand-Duke.
