So she was shy... that would explain Guillaume and Felix's behaviours alot.
But I can't figure out who is in that pic, but it does look rather old.

@rere:
Well, this picture is dating from July 1990 in Cabasson.
In front of the Grand Ducal couple are:

Guillaume, Maria Anunciata, Marie Astrid, Louis, Joseph-Emanuel and Felix.

The names written in Italic are the children of Princess Margaretha (Henri's sister) and Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein.

Note: Alexandra and Sebastien were not yet born at that time.

Just a quick note, in picture 11, Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian of Sweden are the people to the right of Grand Ducal couple. :)

I've read that JC's mother Queen Astrid was well love, is there any specific reason why? I seems like JC has inherited her mum's popularity ^___^

I believe it was because she was close to the people of Belgium and often was seen among the people and interacting with them. She was very compassionate towards her subjects and she was well loved by the Belgians.

And she did die young. Albert was a year old when she died, I think.

I believe Astrid was about 30 when she died... so, yes, very young :(

She respresented Luxembourg with alot of dignity and class

It was often said after her death that she was not so cold and without emotions as many people thinks. She was very shy and usually didn't make much statements but I have seen a report about her on China State visit and she said that she was very impressed by that visit especially by the thousands of little historical soldiers. I try to find pics about that state visit in China because it was a remarkable moment for her.:)

I don't believe that she had such a bad relationship to Maria Teresa that many thinks. Certainly they had some difficulties in certain points because josephine-Charlotte was grown up as "une fille du roi" (daughter of the king) and had a very conservative point of view and thus prefered a royal wife for her son than a commoner but despite all this she loved her whole family and was always pleased to gather the whole family together.

A picture which underlines my statement is the family picture of January 1996 (GD Jean's 75th anniversary) and you see on such pictures a very happy mother and grandmother.:)

And I admire such persons who say: My family is the most important thing in my life.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa said in an interview: " If one of my children is ill, I won't leave him for any function or visit in the world.":)

mt and j-c are two women whom i've always admired, but even moreso now b/c of those statements.

I'm glad you shared your thoughts with us, drimal. I very much agree with and admire what you wrote! :)

Seeing Josephine-Charlotte interviewed on the series "A Royal Family," she struck me as a woman who had a tough life at times, but despite some of the trials she had gone through, she still kept a lively sense of humour and a warm nature. I admire her greatly for this.

As for JC and MT's relationship, perhaps they didn't get on all of the time, but this is the same for many families. I'm sure that JC and MT did have their good moments; after all they have much in common - they're both mothers, they both help people, they have occupied the same position in their society, and most importantly, they are family! I hope that MT has special memories of JC that she will treasure always, and I hope she can think of these and be glad of the happier times they might have shared!

I think there is room for us to admire both these women, devoted to their family and their country and to generally making the world a better place. Of course, JC might have had her prejudices and her way of seeing things, but that merely means she is as human as the rest of us. :)
