The following pictures are from 1993 and shows a happy Grand Ducal couple celebrating their 40th wedding in the beautiful atmosphere of Castle Berg! "The news of the engagement of Princess Josephine-Charlotte and Hereditary Grand Duke Jean was a surprise on 7th November of 1952. Ten days later the royal bridal couple was cheered and presented for the first time in the capital. They knew each other from their earliest childhood because between the Belgian and the Luxembourgish royal families existed a good and familiary relationship. The new connection between both countries fulfilled the wish of Belgium and Luxembourg to enhance the good relationship. On 9th April 1953 was the wedding celebration in the cathedral of Luxembourg under the chairman of Monseigneur Fernando Cento, in the presence of many members of European royal houses and with a great media presence.The civil wedding between Josephine-Charlotte and Jean had been in the Grand Ducal Palace before the great event. With this marriage Princess Josephine-Charlotte became Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and with after the throne achievement of Prince Jean on 12th November 1964 she became Grand Duchess of Luxembourg..."
