If the OP is talking the Japanese imperial family then the only picture I can find of a dog of theirs is

I thought maybe an Akita, but it doesn't really look like one, I am not certain what it is.

Yes, I am referring to the Japanese Imperial family. I also could only find a picture. It looks like a really skinny Akita or a large Shiba Inu.

In May 2009 HIH the Crown Princess has refered their dog to be Shiba Inu.

The dog's name is YURI and it is a mix of part Shiba.
