On October 7th, the IHA invited media to see the car for the enthronement parade.

The vehicle is currently being used for driver training. It will be rolled out on public roads outside the palace for the first time in the October 22 procession.

I love the Imperial chrysanthemums on the front and back of the car, and how the design of the hub caps echoes them.

It's a very solid and dignified looking car, and I'm looking forward to seeing it during the parade.

Emperor, Empress to Hold Tea Party for Foreign Royals | Nippon.com
Quote:
Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will invite foreign royals attending the Emperor's Oct. 22 enthronement proclamation ceremony to their residence for a tea party the following day, Imperial Household Agency vice head Yasuhiko Nishimura said Monday.

[...]

The tea party, to be attended by members of the Japanese Imperial Family as well, will be held at the Imperial couple's residence at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo's Minato Ward on the afternoon of Oct. 23 [...]

[In 1990, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko] invited head-of-state-level members of foreign royal families, including kings, to the Akasaka Estate for a tea party. At the time, the current Emperor, then Crown Prince, held a separate tea party for other foreign royals, including crown princes, at his residence.

This time, only one such tea party will be held, at one location, due to reasons including a decrease in the number of Imperial Family members.
Besides the shrinking Imperial family, Crown Prince Akishino probably doesn't have a place to host a separate tea party. His family is living in temporary housing, and both the Akishino and Akasaka East residences are under renovation.

No surprise really. I didn't expect QMII to attend and the CP couple was the natural choice.

That was an excellent article, nice and succinct, with explanations both for what will happen, and small bit of background to give context. Thank for posting that.

Yes, definitely. It is a white-tie banquet so tiaras are expected.

Jisin magazine reports "Similar to Heisei, there will be 3 rehearsals about 10 days before enthronement. The 3rd rehearsal will be the same as the actual ceremony."

I haven't seen any news about the typhoon's impact on the enthronement yet.

I don't know but the government will probably allow it if needed. This time, the government will manage the Toyota Century and it's already scheduled to be on display at the state guest houses in Tokyo and Kyoto and will be used at the Olympics and Paralympics.

Last time, the IHA managed the car poorly and only drove the Rolls Royce twice: Emperor Akihito's enthronement in 1990 and Crown Prince Naruhito's wedding in 1993.

Rice for November's Daijosai was delivered to the Imperial Palace on October 15. The Imperial Household Agency bought 180 kg of polished rice and 7.5 kg of brown rice. The rice was harvested from Tochigi and Kyoto Prefectures.

On October 16th, the IHA report Princess Yuriko (96) will not attend the enthronement or court banquet. Prince Hitachi (83) will wear tailcoat at the enthronement; he will not attend the court banquet. Reason being their advanced ages.

Japan to pardon 550,000 at time of Naruhito’s enthronement: Asahi Shimbun
Quote:
About 550,000 people convicted of relatively minor offenses will be pardoned in connection with events marking Emperor Naruhito’s ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne on Oct. 22, government officials said.

[...]

The plan, announced by Shunichi Suzuki, chairman of the General Council, is expected to be approved at a Cabinet meeting on Oct. 18.

[...]

Suzuki did not disclose who would be covered in the latest pardon.

In light of strengthening protections and rights of crime victims, the government decided to reduce the scale of the pardons for Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony. For the enthronement ceremony of his father in 1990, about 2.5 million people received pardons.

Not really surprising news about Princess Yuriko, but I am glad that Prince Hitachi will at least be able to attend the enthronement.

On a side note former President Nicolas Sarkozy, as a special envoy of President Macron, will represent France during the celebrations.

Curious. I would expect the First Lady to attend instead, especially considering that Sarkozy has had legal troubles lately and is a political opponent of Macron now, isn't he ?
