In looking at pictures of the Japanese Royal Family at the airport yesterday, it made me wonder about their familial relationships and if someone in the forums knows about them. In particular, I wonder what the relationships are among the children of the current Emperor and Empress. I know there was criticism of CP Naruhito by both his brother and sister for the statements he made to the press last May regarding CP Masako's health situation. But how do we as laypeople read those statements? Is there a rift among the siblings or was it just a defense of the Emperor's remarks subsequent to CP Naruhitos, and the basic relationships are good? Apart from protocol, is the royal family thought to be rigid and unforgiving or can someone shed some light on the personalities of the Emperors children and their spouses? Is there enough flexibility within their lives, apart from the seemingly "rigid-isimo" protocol, for CP Masako to fully recover? I'd love to hear from anyone who can give me some insight into this family. Thanks.
