Thanks for the update on the Imperial family activities!
It is a pleasant surprise to see Crown Princess Masako attending the event alongside with Their Imperial Majesties.

It's good to see Crownprincess attending a public event again. However, she looks tired.

I wonder whether the stress of Aiko's situation at school has been draining for her. When someone's recovering from the kind of illness that CP Masako has, things that people can normally handle become exhausting. This could also explain why she's been seen on very few public occcasions.

Japan’s Imperial Household Agency has been promoting a project to digitalize some 30,000 old photographs, taken mainly during the Meiji period (1868-1912), the agency said Friday. Some are more than 100 years old and are fading and deteriorating.
Many of the images are landscape photos taken by professional photographers who accompanied Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) to visit various provincial areas. Emperor Meiji, who reigned between 1867 and 1912, is the great-grandfather of incumbent Emperor Akihito.
The agency plans to preserve the original photos and release the digitalized images to the public through the Internet, officials said. - Japan Today

Emperor Akihito, Crown Prince Naruhito and Prince Akishino during the annual autumn
garden party at the Akasaka Imperial Garden in Tokyo October 28, 2010. Some 1,600
people were invited to the garden party. Among them astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, see
pic 2. I'm not sure yet if more members of the family attended, but the weather seems
to have been a real disappointment for such an occasion.

Thanks for the photos!
Despite the weather conditions, I am sure people were both excited and delighted to meet His Imperial Majesty and his sons. It is nice that some women opted for the traditional kimonos.

Oh yes, these photos are very nice indeed and the Imperial family all look very well. I do love these rare balcony appearances, which seem very formal but tempered with happy smiles and nice waves. I agree that the Empress looks very elegant as usual and has such a warm and kindly way.

They appear to be standard. Prince Hisahito looked adorable wearing a suit and a tie.

They are certanly not!
The Japanese tradition is not to express the thoughts and intentions through words. Anyone who sees these photos now know for sure that "the heir decision" has been made by the Emperor and the Crown Prince gave his consent. The place of the Princess Toshi-no-miya is aside her cousins the Akishinos. She is the Imperial princess but not the heir. The Princess Aiko is loved, she is cherished, but she is not who will inherit the Throne after the Crown Prince Naruhito.
It's obvious now, and the Imperial family has the cordial consent on the matter.
