Thanks for the updates!
It is always a pleasure to see the Imperial family undertaking official engagements. I fully agree with Jacknch noting that Her Imperial Majesty's ensemble is quite lovely.

The Emperor and the Empress received the French President Franois Hollande (and yes with his life partner Valrie Trierweiler as well) for a 3 days state visit to Japan.

Some pics (to give our dear Al-Bina some chills )

i notice there are translators seating between the two ladies and the two gentlemen. i assume both the emperor and empress speak good english. i wonder if it's the holande couple who are not comfortable speaking in english? or are they just provided to ease understanding so that both can speak in their own languages?

Princes 2012 passing reduces Imperial household families by one
Jun 11, 201, Japan Times
Quote:
The Imperial Household Agency said Monday it has reduced the number of households in the Imperial family by one, following the passing of Prince Tomohito of Mikasa a year ago. The household led by the late prince has been integrated into the one led by his father, Prince Mikasa, 97, the late Emperor Hirohitos brother. The step was applied retroactively from June 6 last year, the day of the princes demise. As a result, the number of households in the Imperial family dropped to five [...]

Prince Tomohitos household consisted of his wife, Princess Nobuko, 58, and their daughters, Princess Akiko, 31, and Princess Yoko, 29. The household was unable to choose their next family leader. [...]

Emperor, Empress leave for India

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko departed Saturday on a weeklong trip to India at the invitation of the Indian government to commemorate the 60th anniversary last year of bilateral diplomatic ties.

The visit, 53 years after the imperial couple's official trip to India in 1960 as crown prince and crown princess, marks the first to the country by a Japanese emperor and empress.

It is their first overseas trip since last year, when they visited Britain to attend Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. [...]
