Rare off day for Sophie. This looks like something I'd wear to go to work or go shopping. The coat is nice but needs a bit of spark/colour to set it off, not pale pink with a dark skirt.

But it's great to have her back after half-term.

Yes, it’s a new coat. Apparently by Stella McCartney

Not overly fond of the outfit, but the coat is beautiful. Perfect for fall

I really like the coat and outfit but I don’t understand why these women need to have so many coats. I feel like Sophie probably has a room in Bagshot Park dedicated to coats.

Not convinced it is a very polished look.

A nice, simple, but still elegant look for the Countess Wessex at a reception at Buckingham Palace today, November 7:

Excellent hat, altho' Blue/Black is a departure, and not one I personally approve of.

Don't like the dress on her. The neckline is not flattering, and the sleeves look way too big. Might be ok if you see the whole thing but I really feel like I want to give her a scarf.

I wonder why the Countess did not wear the traditional black today?

Not mad on the dress but the hat is very nice.

The dress is pretty except for the sleeves. I found them too big.

I don't mind the blue. I never really got the idea why they had to wear head to toe in black like a funeral. I guess its just tradition. Around here, other then wearing poppies, if attending an official event, you'd dress up. But she does certainly stand out among the other women who are all in black. At other war memorials, like on the continent, they don't stick to all black when they attend. I guess for me, as long as its a more subdued color, it doesn't bother me.

I also saw in another photo which shows her wearing short black gloves with the dress, looks pretty cut up.

I like Sophie's blue dress, the fabric is rather nice and she looks good.

Perhaps Sophie wanted to wear something a little more colourful than black without being too OTT? Blue is a perfectly fine compromise. Nowadays all black outfits are becoming less common at funerals and commemorative events; at my great-uncle's funeral a few years ago I felt like I was dressed too somberly (I was wearing a grey dress) as most of the other guests were wearing bright shades of blue, pink, purple etc. Funerals in particular are viewed as a celebration of the deceased's life by some, so that's why brighter colours are becoming more commonplace - and they add a bit of subtle brightness to an otherwise very solemn event.
