I came across Queen Noor's A & E biography this morning, I must've taped it five years ago. It mentions that Noor was criticized in the beginning for wearing expensive clothes and jewellery. She has improved greatly over time and has earned the Jordanian peoples' respect. I think Rania will have to go through a similar process.
I'll see if I can post some images from the Biography. It'll take some time. |

Hello Humera,
Sme times ago I read that pelple in Jordan didn't like Queen Noor just because she spent a lot of money and also because she didn't speak properly Arabic. Many of her subjects consider her as an american, not as a Jordan woman. Do you know something about this? Sol |

well all i know is that she was criticized at the beginning of her marriage for spending too much money. She has, however, earned a lot of Jordanians' respect over the years, especially when her husband was sick and she refused to leave his side. I dont know about how she's viewed now. I imagine many sympathize with her, having to live the US all the time etc. Perhaps the Jordanians on this board could shed some light on this issue.

Dear Humera,
These are beautiful photos all. She was she says in her book quite unprepared to wear royal clothing.....as she entered her marriage with jeans, a few skirts and dresses and not much else. Queen Zein and one of King Hussein's assistants came to the rescue early on by referring her to the House of Dior and other couture salons so she had elegant clothing to get her through till she could cultivate her own style. She clearly has done that. I also have the video of Noor (Queen Noor: Between Two Realms" by A&E). I recommend it. Rania will develop same sense of self and style. I think it would be hard to do. One of Noor's other fashion challenges was her hair. During a visit to Paris, I believe, Queen Zein set her up with the famed Alexandre, the hairdresser who did Jacqueline Kennedy's hair as well as many royals. She said he piled it up and lacquered it so much she looked like "marge simpsom (from Simpson comic show) and spent the night feeling very self-conscious. Now she is lovely with her simpler hairdo's long or upswept. May I say that photo of Noor and King Hussein (she is wearing red I believe) saying goodbye to the Clintons brings me to tears. He was fighting his cancer and yet showed such dignity and optimism--as did she. I miss Him. Mary Shawn |

Also, Queen Noor is highly respected by many Jordanians, as I am told by those I know who live there. They feel she conducted herself with extraordinary dignity and showed Jordan to its best advantage during condolences--which was very important. She raises her children so they speak the Muslim language fluently--in fact, their learning helped her learn when they read books together. She continues to devote herself to good causes benefiting Jordan's women and children. She also showed great class by taking a step back and letting King Abdullah and Queen Rania take center stage so they would establish themselves as monarchs and the country's leaders. On "Larry King Live," she has never uttered an unpleasant word about anyone in the country. I consider her a great example of dignity and class.

hi sol, I've finally got my VCR hooked to the computer and now I can save images from Queen Noor's A&E Biography. I'll post some of them here.
The other pictures, of the various members of the JRF, I'll post later in the appropriate threads. I'll post a couple now and the rest later since it takes a while to convert them to the right format and size. Im sorry if the quality of some of these isn't perfect, I taped this show five years ago and the tape has been sitting in a box for all that time and the quality has somewhat deteriorated. |

I think she gets more regal as she gets older. No one can doubt that she's every inch the Queen..always classy and dignified.

I taped it five years ago, in November 1999. I haven't seen any re-runs of it yet...but then I've been away at university so I haven't paid much attention. The biography was aired only months after King Hussein died and obviously doesn't seem very up-to-date when you watch it now. Im pretty sure A&E Biographies aren't available on the net. I think you can buy the videos though.
