You do realise you're asking two 20something year olds to wear hats by woman in their late 60s, 70s and 80s? For instance the hat worn today by The Duchess of Cornwall would have suited neither girl. Sometimes fasincators are appropriate such as the one Eugenie wore yesterday, or the one Catherine wears today.

I'm all for proper hats but the girls don't need to wear hats too old for them.

Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Máxima, Infanta Elena, Princess Haya, etc. all have worn proper millinery at the age of the two Princesses. Wide-brimmed hats, but also toques, turbans, cloches, pillboxes, homburgs, fedoras, etc. Dear Beatrice, dear Eugenie: there is a whooooole world beyond those childish fascinators! Those things are nice for a poupette dancing in the Folies Bergère, but a Trooping with all that ceremonial needs something more substantial. In my personal opinion that is, and at the same time a well-meant advice to the two ladies: they can look drop dead glamorous with the right sartorial choices.

Sophie is known for her fascinators and strange hats. Bea is doing the same thing when she is ready or if she likes bigger hats she will wear them.

Why would one wear the Orange peel from breakfast on your head? Miss.

All of said women have also worn fascinators as well.

Why compare her to much older women??? This batch is at least younger then the seniors (and by that I mean age and not rank) royals of your previous post. But Victoria is almost 39, Haya 42, Elena will be 53, and Maxima 45. The youngest is 11 years older than Beatrice. Why not at least use age appropriate comparisons. People like Kate, Gabrielle, Madeleine are at least closer in age to them. One shouldn't expect 20 something year olds to wear hats that women in their 40's and 50's wear.

Princess Eugenie's red dress at the Thanksgiving service is superb. What I can see of her Trooping dress looks promising and the hat is wonderful. Excellent choices.

Princess Beatrice's bold printed coat-dress for the Thanksgiving is better suited for Ascot (Ladies Day?). The silhouette is retro with a military vibe. The print/graphic is loud but I'm not a fan of busy prints anyway. Her Trooping outfit looks good. The orange hat brings a nice, fun spark to an otherwise simple blue dress.

I am not a fan of their headpiece today on both ladies but I like how they are experimenting with age appropriate and fun things, if they don't do it now, they wont do it when they are older, this is the time to dress fun yet appropriate which they re doing.

I like how daring they are, good for them!

I don't know why, but I like both looks of the girls! At the moment I like better Beatrice's lovely dress and even that orange fascinator on her!

Me too. The orange of the fascinator really sets off well against the blue of Beatrice's dress. And the dress is one of the nicest silhouettes she's worn to date, I think.

I really feel for Beatrice, I think she doesn't get enough kudos. She's risk-taking and experimental, willing to try new things, always interesting. She doesn't play it safe, but she's young and lovely and what is youth for if not to experiment? She needs to work out what is best for her so she can revert to the tried and true when she's older, but she can't do that without trialling a few looks first.

I feel that she cops a lot of flak for outfits that others get away with, and the press are less forgiving of her. Imagine if she wore the Chanel dress Lady Amelia wore to the thanksgiving service for the Queen's birthday. The fashion police would be critical of the elements of that outfit on her that have elicited such praise for Amelia.

I think both girls looked lovely, and even liked eugenies headgear.
Through Beatrice's looked like an orange peel, her outfit was good

I think both girls are trying to find their own style. Sometimes they get it right , sometimes they don't. They have both worn some unflattering things, but hey, which one of us hasn't ? The difference between them and us is that they are publicly scrutinised every time they step out of the door.
As for hats,I love the fascinator and " hatinator" I am 5 feet 2 inches, and a size 8 most hats make me look either like I am wearing a lampshade or my mothers clothes!! At 52 years of age I have had plenty of experience of hats, from chain store to high end

I hate Beatrices little hat it looks awkward with her hair the way it is and colour is way too bright. Not that keen on Eugenies either I'm not sure how it ties in with her outfit but it's better then some. Kate wears hats and looks stunning it depends on the style etc. So far Bea and Eugenie have not had a great luck with the little fascinators they wear if they can't get those right there is little hope for a real hat. Bea 27 nearly 28 and is STILL finding her way? Seriously this isn't like this happens every few years they have a lot more events that are hat required then most. Bea also has access to the best milliners but she chose something that looks like a still life of an orange peel and she it looks too far forward and her hair not in a style that helps things either. She is a grown woman and she just has bad taste in clothes and hats if she hasn't worked out by now what suits her she isn't going too.

While I agree with you that she gets too much flak from the press for being daring, I myself have wondered many times what she had in mind. Several times she has looked terrible. It almost looked as though Bea wanted to stand out by choosing colors/prints and designs that didn't suit her at all. It's a pity, because I think she has a potential, if only she would let herself be guided or help by a stylist. I would like to see a '50 ro '60 retro look on her: she looks wondeful with puffy skirts...

I'm not an expert but I don't think P.Beatrice and Eugenie only ever wear these "fascinators" and never other hats as they are accused of by some posters above me.
Afaik (and can google) they did try other sorts of headwear also the ones mentioned other princesses like P.Victoria or P.maxima wearing, but I assume that for the moment the two feel more at ease at the smaller types of headwear?

Examples (there are several more if you do a google search):
P.Beatrice Pillbox hat
P.Beatrice wide brim hat
P.Eugenie
P.Eugenie wide brim
P.Eugenie another wide brim

:previous:I agree that they deserve brownie points for navigating the puddles in high heels. Good outfits and beautiful smiles.:)

Times change. Fashion changes. Why are you incapable of using current comparisons? Infanta Elena's clothes from 25 yeears ago would not be worn by most 20 somethings, so why should her hat styles??? Same goes for the other ladies. Think of Victoria's fashion choices from the 90's and I don't even think she would not be embarrassed to wear some again.

But real hats:

I quite like both outfits for the lunch. And they both look quite happy and smiling despite the weather :flowers:

Again, I think Eugenie's is the best of the 2.

I'm not sure horizontal stripes was the best choice for Beatrice. It's hard to pull off a skirt like that and imo it doesn't quite work. It is much much better than the skeletal outfit though.

I like Beatrice's puffy skirt better. That's really what suits her the most, I think.

I like Eugenie's outfit, but there's something off about Beatrice's. The waist of her skirt looks odd.

Eugenie looks quite smart....can't say the same for Beatrice.

Princess Eugenie looks lovely especially for a summer event outdoors.

Princess Beatrice's outfit was ok, not too flattering though.

Be a- Her skirt looks like a zebra or a Cow. Makes me dizzy!

For once I think they both look OK. Just OK, but OK nevertheless. I do wonder why Eugenie insists on wearing sleeveless dresses, since I think that unless it is very hot she should stick to clothes that cover her shoulders, and Beatrice's choice of clothes suggests it is not hot. Today I am going to focus on Andrew, and ask why he hasn't had someone press his suit. It looks like slept in it.

For the lunch, I prefer Beatrice's outfit to Eugenie's. I think the colours of Beatrice's dress are nice together, and suit her well, too. I like how Eugenie's dress is in patriotic colours, but for me the stripes are quite busy.

Eugenie is young and there is nothing wrong with her arms, why not show them. No one should be ashamed of any part of their bodies.
