Well,I respect your opinions Larzen and UserDane if this is what u think, but actually those informations about clothes' spent were not from some tabloids or so but from an audit of 2005 royal finances, personally,I believe what was said in it,and indeed the spending of clothes was 2K$ daily, which makes 700K$ from the 2,5M$ of the annual icome of the young royal couple.

Source: Wikipidea

The article was based on the second public annual report from the Danish royal household:

Quote:
In May 2006 Danish press dubbed Mary a 'Nordic Imelda Marcos'. The Australian-born princess earned the tag after an audit of 2005 royal finances revealed Mary and Crown Prince Frederick spent around $2,000 a day on clothes, shoes and furniture. The royal couple spent around $700,000 of taxpayers' money on private expenses last year. Their private spending was cited in the audit as being the key reason why they spent $125,000 over their $2.5 million annual budget. The couple's entertaining band party bill came to $160,000 while magazines and books set them back a further $12,000 the report said.

Maybe Mary spent more than usual in 2005 because she had to buy a new set of maternity clothes. You can't really recycle your clothes if you don't fit into the them.

If the audit concludes the couple spending $2,000 a day on clothes, shoes and furniture, that covers a lot more than just clothes. Furnitures are usually expensive but necessary investment for any young couple. Unless they are redecorating every week, to lump home furnishing with clothing purchases and call the couple extravagent is unfair.

I think it's wonderful that CP Mary recycles her outfits. It shows that she realizes she has to economise sometimes! If she didn't recycle her clothes, then people would think that all she ever does is shop.

Sadly, some people still think that all she ever does is shop.

And don't forget there is an extra person in the family now, which also increased the amount of things Mary & Fred needed to buy last year, ie baby gear, baby clothes, baby furniture etc

Mary recycling clothing also shows how the same outfit can be worn different ways, combined etc. She does it with a great taste .

The article was based on the second public annual report from the Danish royal household:
I took a look at the accounts at www.kongehuset.dk (Organisation - Økonomi - Årsrapport 2005).'m far from being an expert at reading accounts, I could not find any itemization of Mary's clothes purchases in the annual accounts. Therefore, I maintain that the above is hearsay and gossip - I seem to remember that Ekstra Bladet excelled in the Imelda Marco comparison (and then the low level of creditability is already set).
As far as I understand, Wikipidea is renowned for it's unfiltered information flow and people are often warned against taking its information at face value.

I wonder what Mary's doing with her old clothes - gowns, casual clothes, hats, shoes, purses? I mean clothes which she doesn't use anymore.
