I agree wholeheartedly with both of you on your postings of May 10th....

Royalty Magazine has always had typos and wrong dates and information and is frequently late in publishing.
I used to subscribe but now-a-days I just glance at it on the newsstands and don't buy it.
Too bad, as it looks like a first class publication, but just isn't......

Majesty Magazine is a little better but not much. It has lots of mistakes too.
It is too bad that Royalty Digest is discontinued, as it appeared to be better.

Another magazine that I do subscribe to is called "European Royal History Journal" published out of San Francisco.

I remember Royalty Magazine's "Millenium Issue" (the last one I bought), and it was so riddled with errors. Some very basic ones. In fact, AFIRC, it was one of their most error ridden issue. I was so p-od at putting out so much $$ for such garbage that I e-mailed them with the list of erros, and telling them that one expected a lot more for a "Millenium Issue". Of course I received no reply.

I do subscribe to Majesty; it has some errors in it that I've noticed, and I'm by no means an expert, and I get a bit fed up with all the great big pictures of Princess Michael and family combined with the almost total absence of anything to do with the Gloucesters, but at least on the whole it's informative and pretty nicely designed. Even the website of Royalty looks as though it belongs to a tabloid.

I just wish Ingrid Seward would get the message that we all know by now that she's best buddies with Princess Michael, and we don't need to be reminded of it every other issue.

I have decided to cancel my subscription to Royalty. It had 2 big articles on Camilla and Charles in the last issue and I thought, I don't need THEM in my home! They were started because of Diana, and now she is gone, they are going to go to Camilla? Spare me. Also, I am not interested in a bunch of silly movie stars....And I can find more information out on these boards, anyway!
Larry mentioned the European Royal History Journal, has anyone else ever read it?
Does it cover Royalty in the 1800s?

I don't mind Royalty, but I think it could be much better. It's one of the few magazines that doesn't just concentrate on the British royal family. I wish they would publish more on the new set of royal women in mainland Europe. There is still to much on Diana published. She been dead long enought, do we really need to rehash everything. Wait a little while and then write an interesting article.

Hi Tenngirl,

This magazine covers many, many Royal and Imperial families and has pictures of many obscure nobilities too.
It gives a genealogy of families and persons in several principalities and duchies, too!

They put on a conference in San Francisco every year -- this years is October 15th - 16th weekend.

Also, there is a tour through some European countries every year -- this years is on right now, I believe, and takes in Southern Germany.

A story of the editor of the Danish Magazine Billed-Bladet, Anders Wagner Thisted, being awarded the order of the Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe (http://politiken.dk/VisArtikel.sasp?PageID=400478) for his and the magazine's excellent service to the Royal House, prompted me in this.

What magazines and newspapers should we trust when it comes to news about royals? Sometimes it is hard for a non-native, or indeed a native, to know if a magazine is known for publishing credible quality news, or just pure gossip.

And especially on a forum like this, where links to stories seem to pop up on a regular basis, it would be nice to know what sources can be counted upon to be somewhat credible, and which are pure drivel produced only in the mind of journalists to sell the magazines.

And as a sidenote: Billed-Bladet came out with a number on the day when Joachim and Alexandra's divorce was announced, when it proclaimed that a thing like that would never happen. Billed-Bladet did not deal in such unfounded gossipy rumours.

Maybe Billedbladet is the best, what the DRF can expect...but a serious newspaper, doing good research??

Sometimes these mags are real treasures. But to be honest, most of the pics we can also see online (*coughing*)
And in spite the fact, that most gossip rags are 100 times wrong, they are also one or two times right. E.g. the mags have prognosed a divorce of Alexandra and Joachim...and I´ve also written one day before, that this is a lie. But they were right. We shouldn´t forget, that also Royals are denying and lying to us. So IMO the mags, who work more with sources, informants, speculations, digging in the dirt have also their right to be. When e.g. ppl like Alexandra and Joachim play the show of the happy couple to us and a mag is proving them wrong, it´s for me ok. I don´t want to be fooled, but at the same time I also don´t want to be fooled of the mags (and some of them work only with this principle)

I can only talk about the german magazines. I would say the best (of all these bad) magazines is BUNTE, but many stories are pure phantasy, too.
If there are special news I'm only interested in photos - and photos in BUNTE are really good - and look for articles on the internet.

@ Lena: Exists "Royals" also in German? I haven't found it yet, nor in big kiosks. Can I find the English one in german shops? Thanks for further information.

The English 'Majesty' Magazine is pretty trustworthy. They have a brilliant mix of old and new as well. But Pro-Camilla if thats an issue for you. I was reading that someone wrote in to say that they would no longer buy the magazine if it featured Camilla. I buy it more often to see the Camilla coverage!

I wouldnt call Majesty pro-camilla. I think they're very balanced. they cover members of the royal family and that's what she is now. but really, back in the 80s 9 out of 10 issues had a diana close up on the cover. and I dont think they've done 1 with just camilla yet.

I agree with that I buy it too to see Camilla. she's so great.

I like Majesty & HELLO. I think they are both great (espec. for the pictures!). People Magazine (in the US- English) is pretty good...but I think they dumb down the articles on royals (when they have them- & if they do they are mostly on William & Harry...not that I'm complaining about that :)...at least they show up in a mag in the US!). People makes the articles understandable for our short-attention span minds here in America :p.

I'd say the Norwegian Se & Hør is slightly more credible than its Danish counterpart - even if they have their share of gossip that turns out to be true. The Danish Se & Hør seems to be very speculative, personally I prefer Billed-Bladet, even after they were wrong about Joachim and Alexandra. It is less gossipy, and doesn't cater quite as much to people who know nothing about Royalty.

It also seems to me that the royals also are more inclined to be interviewed by Billed-Bladet than Se & Hør, at least in Denmark. I read a fantastic interview with Princess Elisabeth on the occasion of her birthday, and it was sort of a revelation on a royal I knew little about before.

Her & Nå also exist both in Denmark and Norway. It's cheaper than Se & Hør and Billed-Bladet, but less interesting to read.

Hello Magazine may be good for the British news, but having caught them making several glaring, albeit minor, errors on the Scandinavian Royals over the past years, I'm not trusting them much in that department. Besides, being able to read Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, gives me access to the kind of news they have on Scandinavian royals before it gets mangled by whatever translators they use.
