I totally agree with you, this is a wonderful image! The Queen is so relaxed there, and with a real and warm smile (not her "official" smile, which is quite nice already by the way).

I like the cover picture very much too :

A peek inside one's wardrobe: The Queen's dresser reveals Her Maj's style secrets | Mail Online(end of page)

Is it me, or is the Queen kind of really posing there, like a model would ? It's definitely not her "regal" pose, nor the "Granny" one : to me, it's more the way a much younger woman would pose for fun in front of a professional mode photographer !

You were probably blinded by the Princess of Swaziland and her Jubilee outfits that weekend.

My book just came today, and I'm devouring it!! I didn't have the heart to wrap it up and put it under the Christmas tree without looking at it first.

Like An Ard Ri, I got this book from my very kind sister for Christmas. It is just beautiful, even if you don't read any of the words the pictures alone are well worth the money. I loved the picture of the GGBI tiara, where Kelly points out that the shadow it makes looks like little children holding hands.

My little 2 year-old niece loves looking at the pictures while going "ooohhhh".

"The Audience" a play by Peter Morgan (2013) [EIIR and her Prime Ministers]

"The Audience" a play by Peter Morgan (2013) [EIIR and her Prime Ministers]

"The Audience"
a play about Queen Elizabeth II and her Prime Ministers
written by Peter Morgan and starring Dame Helen Mirren

Synopsis from the official website:

Quote:
For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses.
The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive.
From young mother to grandmother, these private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age. Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while she remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister.
The Audience | Home - World Premiere at London's Gielgud Theatre

The play is receiving rave reviews, as is Dame Helen for her performance. It runs until 15 June at the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End.

Just thought I would post about this so that any TRF members who plan to be in London over the next few months could perhaps go and see it.

If Dame Helen playing the Queen is not enough of an attraction, there are real corgis who appear onstage during the play. What more could anyone ask for?

Created a thread for it in the electronic domain; couldn't really gauge where it should go.
