Prince Carl Philip had a tough start to the weekend with technical issues during testing, meaning vital time lost ahead of qualifying and the races. But the 36-year-old managed to score points in both races with eighth position as his best result.
”The problems we had in testing meant that we were on the back foot for the rest of the weekend. With that in mind I must say that I am quite pleased with the result in the races,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Carl Philip said at the beginning of the STCC season that he wants to concentrate fully and will drive all the races.

Now Aftonbladet writes that Sofia Hellqvist has asked prince Carl Philip to think about. Therefore, Carl Philip has decided not to compete in Mantorp on 25th June.
- He is unable to combine with the honeymoon. Sofia wanted them to be away for a longer time and Carl Philip does not want to disappoint her, says a racing source.
Carl Philip races for Volvo Polestar where Johan Meissner is the press officer. He can currently neither confirm nor deny Aftonbladet's information.
- We are aware of some clashes in the STCC schedule with Prince Carl Philip's wedding, but we have yet no decision on the race at Mantorp Park, says Meissner.

Carl Philip's best result in a race is a sixth. After last season, he finished 12th of the 16 drivers. The honeymoon clash means that the chances of a top ranking this year is decreasing.
- A possibly missed race weekend obviously affects the outcome of the championship, says press officer Johan Meissner.
So far this season the prince has got together 10 points.

The next race weekend after Mantorp is on 10th-11th July.

Well, one things for sure is that he can't combine everything and certainly hw will miss some races when in honeymoon...I think he is going to stop racing sooner than later... We'll see...

He can skip races because for him racing is a hobby, not work like to the other drivers at STCC.

Unless he is in the middle of a military exercise, then he cant miss races and has to fly back :whistling::D

I think this was expected, that he wouldn't race so close after the wedding

thanks for keeping us informed :flowers:

But he said at the wedding interview for TV4 that he takes his racing very seriously. Yes, that is a little odd that in the middle of a military exercise he can interrupt it and go racing, but because of a honeymoon he can't. I hope that by racing in STCC he doesn't take a driver's place away from someone who could earn his/her living by racing there. Of course it is PR for STCC and the team that a swedish prince is racing, but still.

Volvo Polestar Racing has also confirmed that his car will not be driven by another driver during the Mantorp Park races, meaning that the field is down to 12 cars.

Prince Carl Philip returns behind the wheel of the #13 Volvo S60 Polestar at Falkenberg after missing the previous round due to his honeymoon.
”I am delighted to be back racing again. Falkenberg is a circuit where I have had strong results in the past, so I am very much looking forward to the weekend and hoping to finish in the top ten,” said Prince Carl Philip.

The STCC weekend at Falkenberg starts with testing and qualifying on Friday, followed by two races on Saturday.

Prince Carl Philip started the Falkenberg weekend by being fifth fastest in the test session, just 0.581 seconds from the top time. The Volvo Polestar Racing driver qualified tenth, meaning reversed grid pole position for the second race.
”I am very happy with my pace so far, we have taken a clear step in the right direction. But I am a bit disappointed with my qualifying result, we are going to analyse the data ahead of the race. I’ve got a big challenge ahead of me tomorrow that I am looking forward to,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Carl Philip got a drive through penalty at the first race in STCC today. He broke too late to a curve and hit another car, the black car at this photo.

Later he had to retire because of high engine temperature. Second race later today.

EDIT: Carl Philip started the second race from the pole - in STCC they use the reversed starting order on the second race, the driver who is 10th at the first qualifying, gets to start from the pole to the second race. Carl Philip won the race, because the driver who finished first, got 30 seconds penalty. Carl Philip's teammate Thed Björk was racing hard against Carl Philip and was faster than him, but Björk was pushed out of the track and he had to retire. It was Carl Philip's first win and podium place in STCC.

Please explain your comment. The information from the race certainly does not indicate such thing.

Marty91charmed commented my post after the first race, I edited my post after the second race.

STCC uses the reversed starting order to get more excitement to the races, so that the fastest drivers would not always win and be superior. This time Carl Philip was lucky, and he was also faster than on many races. And because some of the toughest rivals retired, he won. But that was the best race I have seen him driving in STCC.

Yes, it was in reference to a crash that he provoked. And by the way, I don't think he is a successful racer at all!

Carl Philip attended on Saturday at a karting competition Lidköping Open at the Lidköping Motor Stadium. Today he will present the Prince Carl Philip Racing Cup trophies to the young winners of their classes.
On Saturday's qualification he was 14th and at the race 12th. He raced at class DD2, which was a "celebrity" race. Among the drivers were TV-personality Mats "Snickar-Matte" Karlsson and the ceos of STCC and Sveriges Bilsport.

Next STCC races are in Karlskoga, Gelleråsen Race Track. Two test sessions on Friday, qualifications and two races on Saturday.
The regulations have been changed ahead of the final three races with penalty weights being introduced, based on the standings of the championship and the results of the previous race weekend according to the following system:
Penalty weights for Karlskoga:
30 kg – Thed Björk
30 kg – Fredrik Larsson
30 kg – Richard Göransson
20 kg – Fredrik Ekblom
10 kg – Carl Philip Bernadotte
Prince Carl Philip scored a sensational maiden STCC victory in the previous race at Falkenberg and will carry 10 kilos of penalty weight.
”I have still got a good feeling after the victory that I will carry with me this weekend. I really like Karlskoga, I have had strong results here in the past and I hope to continue scoring strong points this weekend,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Finnish female racing driver Emma Kimiläinen, 26, races against Carl Philip in STCC. Emma told to Iltalehti, that Carl Philip has done a lot of work so that he has become a better driver. He gets always a lot of harsh words from the media and the public when he makes mistakes. Carl Philip won the last race partly because of STCC's reverse starting order at the second race. But Emma says that he drove well and it is nice that he succeeded. He has developed a lot during the years. It is hard to pass Carl Philip at the track, he "closes the doors" so well. Last year Carl Philip and Emma crashed two times during the same weekend. Emma says that this year they haven't crashed, they noticed how the media made a big deal about that and they decided to drive nicely against each other. Emma says that Carl Philip is a very nice man, he has a very good sense of humor, so normal, talks with everyone. Emma thinks that Carl Philip deserves his place in STCC: he likes to race, and he brings media attention to STCC.

Emma herself is a very nice and extremely positive young woman. Emma kept a four year break from racing (she studied, got married and gave birth to a girl) and returned to racing in STCC last year.
At the moment Emma is sixth in STCC with 84 points, and Carl Philip 10th with 36 points.

Carl Philip was 5th at the first test at the Gelleråsen racetrack in Karlskoga.

:previous: Thank you LadyFinn. I was surprised to read that women and men can compete in the same race... From my limited knowledge, aside from the syncronised races, woman and men usually do not compete agains each other in sports in general!

in motorized sports it's not a problem to have women and men compete in the same competition, although women usually are in the minority; there have been female formula 1 racedrivers as well
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_Formula_One_drivers

and in practically all equestrian sports male and female riders (and male and female horses ;) ) compete with equal amount of succes in the same competition

From the press release of Volvo Polestar Racing, the wins of Carl Philip's teammates secured the team title for their team.
Prince Carl Philip continued his strong form from the previous race at Falkenberg where he scored his first victory, securing his best ever qualifying result with fifth position at Karlskoga. Incidents in the two races saw him finishing tenth in the first race and seventh in the second.
”Things didn’t go as planned in the races due to mistakes of my own and incidents of others. But what I bring with me from this weekend is my overall pace, being able to match the drivers in the top five is an awesome feeling and I am looking forward to Solvalla,” said Prince Carl Philip.

IMO Prince Carl Philip had his best weekend of the year. One has to admit that his win at Falkenberg was to a large extent the result of luck with all 3 top drivers being eliminated (crashes & penalty). This time it was his abilities that got him the results. It will be very interesting to see how he goes in the last 2 race meets of the year.

That is what most competitions are all about. Hanging in there to the end and taking advantage of competitors weaknesses. To say that his win was due to luck is to assume all competitions are perfect and no-one makes mistake. He won because he did not make a mistake and did not get any penalties.

Grevinnan I understand what you are saying but to have all 3 top drivers drop out in one race is incredible. I don't know if you have heard about the V8 Supercar races that we have in Australia. I have been watching them since the 1970's and I have seen many times were, what I refer to as luck, has resulted in the most unlikely person winning.
