Dear Grace Marie, I was being IRONIC, indicated by a ...

In other words: The usual rumor mill nonsense. Queen Silvia couldn't have been more explicit in all her interviews that she wants her children to marry for love, first and foremost, and period.
I am certain though that the Bernadottes do have some complex family dynamics, with a lot of things going on behind the scenes which they have the good sense to remain silent about.
The reason why I'm certain? Because CP Victoria herself had an interesting slip of tongue during her engagement press conference, calling her own family "not easy". But then, which (royal) family is...
I have not been reading those boards and did not hear the rumours.
I would have found it logical that the Queen would prefer her children marrying for love but also someone royal. A commoner becoming a Queen once every 100 years is a fairy tale, but a commoner consort every 35 years makes the Bernadottes a bit less royal than perhaps they would like to be.
I had noticed that during the words they exchanged, although could not understand what they were saying, only Victoria appeared animated. The King and the Queen were more restrained. Then again, not everyone jumps up and down every time they are happy and excited.

Well, not everybody jumps up and down in front of a camera either, most people are rather tense in front of these things, esp. when they realise that millions of people are watching them. But who knows king Carl Gustav might be jumping on his chair in Drottningholm every day since the engagement, like Tom Cruise in the Oprah Winfrey show .

You think?? One would think that after all these years they would all (except Daniel of course) be used to the cameras by now.
I can only imagine K CG Jumping up and down on the couch from joy!!!
I just hope they televise the wedding through Eurovision.......

Hi,

Marengo is right - The King of Sweden would not jump up & down before a TV camera.
He is not Tom Cruise!!

Many people are still nervous on TV even after years & years. And, I don't think Carl Gustav is a born luminary; he is probably shy and nervous still...

If I'd had my way, Victoria would have married Prince Edward of Britain. And, Prince William would marry Madeleine.
But, I don't get a say in these things.

Larry

Nononononononononono! I don't think they match well at all!

Hehe. I for one am VERY GLAD the King and Queen did not hop up and down like a pair of jackrabbits! I felt they behaved appropriately for the occassion and I do not interpret their reserve as displeasure over Victoria's choice.

And as for CP and Emma. No one is surprised by the break-up, I suppose. What surprises me is that anyone would directly or indirectly lay the blame on Victoria and Daniel's engagement. If CP and Emma's relationship had been strong, this increased pressure would not break them up - or at least, not so quickly. The truth is, there had been cracks for a long time now - all those previous rumours of breakups, for instance. The speed of the breakup (so soon after Victoria and Daniel's announcement) is proof enough that they were probably discussing a breakup long before this. I feel bad for them - they seemed to suit well, and it's a shame to see such a long relationship going to dust. But better a temporary unhappiness now than a drawn-out one in the future.

Must be hard for Emma not to attend Viktoriaīs wedding after she is (was) familiar with the royal family for such a long time
Or she will be invited because of being a good friend - who knows

It's a good old, tried and tested Royal PR habit to use positive personal news (engagement) as the right moment to come up with negative personal news (seperation).
Both developments were problably long in the making, and I don't think that it was all coincidence that they hit the news in the same week.

Earlier it was said Emma did suffer from a flu and thatīs why she didnīt attend the engagement party on Friday.
Emma told Svensk Damtidning, that they had decided for a break on Sunday.
Really, who would leave his gf of 10 years in the middle of a disease. This was long planned...just as the attended wedding with photo op for Expressen in december was a long planned move...so they could "stretch" things a bit without getting too much into "fire zone"

The argument with the wedding is pretty silly. Victoria and Daniel "block" all possibilties for a wedding of her siblings until 2010, if Madeleine and Jonas would marry in 2011, Carl Philip couldnīt marry until 2012 and would have had plenty of time to develop his relationship further without any pressure.
They werenīt working as couple. Period

Agreed, Lena.
The one photo op of Carl Philip and Emma in December, after their seperate holidays, looked pretty staged to me, and afterwards the Prince left Stockholm to study anyway.
My take on it is that they might very well have agreed to seperate at one point last year already, and now everything went according to script after Victoria's engagement.

agree 100% and that's no different from other royal houses around who finally had to accept a commoner with commoner baggage on his or her back.

No not everyone does but still there is something called bodylanguage. The video was not live but pre-filmed at home. I thought the King was the King, no surprises but I had expected more warmth from Silvia, again, body language, instead her statements seemed forced and not "from the heart" to me.

In general I think the monarchs are trained not to give too much away but I would expect and have seen different from the consort, both ways.
Maxima did a similar interview situation and what a difference, with Beatrix and Claus openly showing affection towards the new family member and giving her priceless support for a good start.
The Spanish King & Queen didn't even bother to give an interview, the Queen did her famous vinegar face and held hands with her son on the engagement pic

I've said it before unless you are almost dead and wear your head under the arm you will show up at such an occasion. It was clear that a statement was due, confirming what had been avoided to be confirmed for a long time. In terms of marriage, it seems to me CP is as interested in it as Prince William and either Emma had enough of being a Waity Emma after such a long time or there had not been enough substance in their relationship anyway, kind of a "walker" situation that finally had to end at some point.

Perhaps more insights on Victoria's engagement can be given in this thread about the engagement. That way we can keep this thread for her brother and his separation

The girl has a blog together with her girl friend, just "young girls having fun"- kind of.
But today she wrote:
"I woke up at 5 a.m this morning because the person in my bed is going to Miami today..." So Iīm really hunting some info right now to check if Carl Philip is on his way to Miami right now. Will get back soon as I know

This is nonsense, and I hope you are aware that it is nothing but a joke.
The 'Stephanie' story happens to be a few weeks old. A girl who met the Prince at a party had her friends take cell phone pics of herself sitting next to him that evening, and now she fills her blog with this crap.
Sometimes I'd wish for a 'license to blog' on this wonderful world wide web.
It's called a hoax.

Boris, I really hope that you are right!

Itīs just that I heard it from so many people lately, just hope the Prince still have som good judgement left. The girls (and guys) are all over the shy boy, so he can just pickīn choose!
