I like the dress and I think sometimes she looks well dressed.
But, I have to be honest and for me her background colours my opinion. I wouldn't want my sons to marry someone with that background I know that's not the correct thing to say, but being honest here folks.
So for me it's hard to look at her and say she looks good. But I am working on it and hope by the time the wedding comes around I can be truly knocked out by a beautiful bride.

I find it interesting that Chris was labelled as a playboy at the swedish press when he started dating Madeleine. There were some photos of him in internet with women, most of them with his former girlfriend.
But Sofia, she is just a lovely girl with a good heart according to the press. I found this collage from the net, most of the photos are from Finest and Stureplan-websites. There are more photos like this. If in these photos would be Chris with different women, he would be called as a womanizer and playboy.

Interesting collage. :flowers: BTW, were these publicity photos? I confess to not really knowing why Sofia was being photographed with men like this. Are these men former boyfriends?

Most of those photos are taken at the restaurants and night clubs in Stureplan, where Sofia and her friends used to party. They take photos of the parties and evenings and put the photos to internet.
This guy at the photos is Peder Fogstrand, he calls himself "Greven" = "Count". He is also called the Icon of Stureplan.

What I find interesting here is that the problem is not the media trying to portray Chris as a bad person, the problem is the media not trying to portray Sofia as bad person.

That says a lot, but not about the media, Chris or Sofia.

In regards to what? We're gossiping here, not so?

Thank you. :flowers: So she was partying and it was the 'in thing' to have your picture taken and posted on the internet. Okay.

Yes, curious business. It may be because Sofia needs 'rehabilitation', and Chris is really squeaky clean? Or is it women are given a wide berth and men are not? What's your take on it?

My take is that there's no need to spread malicious gossip about no one - but, as it seems, that's part of their job.

Also, Sofia's past is on the internet for everyone who wants to see it, and if she had something so terrible on her past, I'm 100% sure the press would have discovered and printed it by now.

Very well said and I completely agree with you. It's puzzling to me that it has now suddenly become a bad thing that the media isn't spreading petty rumours about a royal (or, future royal, in this case).

–––––––

Regardless, I thought it had been very specifically pointed out several times in this thread that comparing royals will cause nothing but arguments? :ermm:

Sofia will make a wonderful princess. She has overcome the negative and accomplished a lot of positive in the past several years.

Sofia will eventually prove to the people of Sweden that she is worthy enough to be a member of the royal family. A respected member of the distinguished Bernadotte dynasty.

Let's not get carried away now...give it at least a year to see if she can live up to all that :)

In fairness, I don't think that's what was being suggested. It's that they appear to go after Chris, but not Sofia. Why is that? Why do they go after Chris? Some also feel that they went after Daniel, but nothing with Sofia. Why is that? I think it's a fair question. :flowers: But one that will have no answer, it seems. Oh well.

My guess would be that for the gossip-press it's much more "fun"/"rewarding" to find some "dirt" on a person with a seemly unblemished image than on Sofia who's past is pretty much out in the open (occassionally literally).
That said, i think they still have stuff up there sleave for in a couple of years when Sofia is really mingling with the royals; it's probably a lot more "fun" to publish new info then, then to have everything out now.
(or maybe: there's just nothing more to Sofia's past than what we already know...)

(or maybe: there's just nothing more to Sofia's past than what we already know...)

But "we" is a rather small group of royal followers. Most of the normal swedes know only a small bit of Sofia's past and haven't seen all the photos. So the gossip press has a quite large group of people to whom most of the information would be new.

^Not really, tbh. Work places block many sites, even , normal and safe sites for their ''pornographic content.''

The girl partied hard and did more then most people here would. She has a past, we all do. I hope she looks back on her past with no regret and is able to say it's part of what makes her as a woman now. And those age old comments on how you wouldn't want your son to marry a woman ''like her'' (sl.t-shaming alert) are getting old too. I hope you would want your son to marry whoever makes him happy.

I think it's a disgrace that she's marrying into this royal family IMO. Thank God CP isn't first in line.

Quick question: I haven't really been following, what will Sofia's title be?

So without really following you have jumped to that conclusion?

You should check with the IAAF (international athletics federation), you might have just set a worldrecord in long-jump

The court hasn't announced it, they probably do it just before the wedding. Until that we don't know if she will get a title, or maybe she does like Chris and doesn't want a title.

that would be an option :pigsfly:

It would be a huge breach with tradition if she's not going to share her future husband's titles. Having said that: nothing surprises me anymore. :)

I suppose it would be gender-neutral for her not to become a princess, just as Jonas B. was not supposed to become a prince either but was just to share the ducal title. But I doubt that this will be the case indeed :pigsfly:.

Not really. When Madeleine was engaged to Jonas Bergström, he wasn't supposed to be Prince Jonas when they married, just Duke of Hälsingland and Gästrikland.

Chris chose to not become a Swedish citizen and didn't want a title, so that was another story.

Daniel is married to the heir, so no surprise that he was given the titel of HRH Prince Daniel.

So if you look at the history, it's an open question if Sofia will become duchess of Värmland, or princess Sofia.

:previous: Historically things get really wierd before King Carl Gustaf. The royal line was pretty thin on the ground, CG being the youngest of five and the only male and I think that is reflected in Princess Madeleine's daughter, regardlesss of her father not wishing to hold any title whatsoever, has been made a Princess of Sweden. I should imagine their next child will be similarly titiled.

This may change in the not too distant future as, should they fail to meet certain pre-requisites as laid down by TPTB, the will retain their titles but not their right in the sucession. I should expect nothing less for Carl-Philip's children, he being third in line to the throne.

We have to take into account that it was Chris's choice not to accept a title and not the King or the Court. This sets up a thought that perhaps Sofia, being both Swedish and not a career woman, will become a Princess rather than a Duchess, gender neutral or not.

Only time will tell.

It's been a long tradition in all European royal families that a woman shares the titles of her husband. The other way around is a different matter.

Try to make it a different matter in Sweden... I'm quite sure it wouldn't work out so well with the gender neutral policies over her :)

King Carl XVI Gustaf does not have a gender-neutral policy for titles - the wives of crown princes of Sweden have always been Crown Princesses, but the husband of Crown Princess Victoria is only a Prince.

My prediction - she will be an HRH princess and duchess, as will all of the remainder of CG's grandkids.
