She's 30 (what COULD one do without internet! ). She also has her belly button pierced, I just noticed. - A piece of pre-royal trivia, shall I say?

Seen enough of SH. I don't think she's my cup of tea, but she doesn't have to be. However, I do prefer the current situation, which means she has more on.

I also notice she doesn't have any education or training after 15, and earned her money from soft-porn photo shoots. Thats' the way it is. Up to her to show something different.

As such I don't mind anything anyone does, and I mean it. Some things are best done in privacy, though, because it may exceed levels of decency reasonably acceptable in most societies (this is getting weakish ...).

I find that if royals must exist and others pay their way, they have to respect the standards of the society they live in. I never like pretence of any sort, as I find it always backfires.

I don't mind at all if people want to do porn and sex scenes or whatever as long as they accept things for what they are. SH would not be a person I would want to represent me. I sincerely believe royal families have responsibilities towards their peasants, and they must behave accordingly.

I totally agree; SH is very ill-qualified for a royal job indeed!

One might be inclined to say that when the rest of us do this sort of thing it is usually behind closed doors rather than in front of a studio camera - so in a sense, Sofia is no different from anyone else apart from her sense of location....

SH soft porn past is not a problem per se; but as a royal she is expected zu represent her country. That's the point. And that's all she has don so far - exept from living with CP and doing some very little work for that charity

a) I very much doubt that a majority of Swedens people can identify with her, and wish to be represented by her
b) I cannot imagine that people from a muslim / partriachic / traditional / religious / republican / prudish / moralin drenched / etc. background will feel 'honoured' or to meet her, or will take her serious.

Of course, well broad up people still won't spit in her face, but smile and shake hands but what they think of her, will be a very diffrent story.

So for me it is very clear that she is very ill qualified for the job of a royal.

Indeed, let's get back on the original topic.

Whatever we may think of Sofia's suitabillity (and I'm not particularly impressed) she will become a member of the SRF and as such she will have to perform duties of some sort.

Now I would like to know, from those who follow S&CP more closely than I do, what you think her future roles will be?
What areas do you think she and CP will take on? Based on what you know about her, what do you think she will prefer to engage herself in?
What should she stay well clear off?
Do you believe S&CP will make a good team on visits abroad? Being married and happy does not necessarily make a good team. In other words, based on who they have performed together so far, do you think they will make a good team abroad? Or should they preferably take the backseat at least for some time?

How is Sofia?
From an objective point of view is she a good speaker? Is she good at interacting with all sorts of people? Can she act the role?

A lot of questions, I know, but next year they will be very relevant.

I think we will need a definition for "tabloid magazine" to be able to follow the rule.

With all this gunge gumming up the works, we are getting very little chance to see or learn more about Sofia. Muhler is right when he suggests that all these little facets are going to be important next year.

So far I have seen very little of Sofia and, since Prince Carl Philip isn't headline material when doing his royal bit, it's a bit hard to isolate his niche as well. So, for me, I would like to see more of them as a double act for the first year or so, just so we can all identify them as a couple with distinct interests.

I'm a little surprised.

Doesn't anyone know anything about Sofia Hellqvist and how she performs in public?
I should think she has made enough appearances since the engagement for someone to venture a guess as to how she might perform and what she might take on once she is a member of the SRF.
Hasn't anyone in the media at least writtin something about this?

And since we have already established her general suitabillity (or lack of it depending on one's view) based on her past could we please agree on avoiding the temptation of going down that particular track, at least for a while.

ADDED:

Okay, let's break it down:

How is she as a speaker?
How is she when interacting with ordinary people?
How does she behave at ceremonies?
How does she behave when the general spotlight is on the SRF? - Shy? Open? Controlled? Etc.
How does she dress for the occasion?
How is her interaction between CP when in the spotlight and on the job?
How is she when she is being interviewed?
Can she get a message across when being interviewed?
What fields has she expressed a particular interets in?
And so on and so on.
All this based on Sofia after the engagement.

^^^^^^ imo this is partly covered in other threads like the "current events" and i the info on her work with project "playground", but these matters usually also divide opinions:
to me she looks smiling and happy when attending events with the SRF, others see it as "camera hungry" and "attention seeking"

Basically: this is what fuels all our discussions

I don't know the answer to your questions, but one thing I know for sure is that CP could not get married without the consent of the King and the government of Sweden (otherwise, he and his descendants would lose their succession rights under Swedish law).

If the King and the government agreed to the marriage, that is a sign to me that Sofia was vetted and was not considered a potential threat to the monarchy and/or to the country.

Thank you.

That's what I'm interested in. Your opinion, as unbiased as possible.
So you believe she represents herself well, I conclude.

Okay, let me try.

Based on the engagement interview and as unbiased as possible.
She had obviously taken very much care in how she dressed. And did fine in that regards IMO.
She was very open and a bit on the talkative side, but also curbed herself a number of times, looking at CP as to ensure what she said or did was right. No doubt being insecure. And mind you this is from a woman who is used to being in the spotlight and used to talking to the press. - So she has been advised in how to deal with the press and at least on that occasion been very aware of that. - Good.
She comes across as smiling positive person. Whether that is because she thriwes with being in the spotlight, is a natural in the spotlight or is simply being herself, I don't know. It's not the worst trait to have though when you must be in the spotlight the rest of your life.
At least I can't recall having seen her sulk or in a bad mood when the show is on.

I know she is involved with a charity in South Africa, whether that is out of a genuine commitment or whether it's a kind of practise run prior to her becoming a princess, I can't judge.

Apart from that I'm pretty blank as to how she might perform within the SRF.
So my conclusion based on very little, is that when it comes to cutting the odd ribbon and smile for the cameras and attending events in the public glare she will do fine.
But I haven't seen her serious side. That I would like to know about.
As for the rest, interaction with people, commitments to charities, handling the press, particularly on more serious topics, I don't know, that's why I asked the questions.

As to her future role (to get back to the second part of the thread title ) i don't think she is expected to be a fulltime royal right?
So like P.Carl-Philip has a designer job and career in car-racing (and in the navy) and next to that performs his royal duties; i think that Sofia will perform relatively little royal duties, at least for the time-being when there are several adult royals in the SRF working full-time as such.
Does anyone know what Sofia's other current (!) activities are apart from project Playground?

I agree Muhler. I would think enough time has passed since the engagement was announced that we should be able to make an educated guess as to how she would perform as a member of the SRF and her role within it.

IMO Carl-Philip and Sofia appear to be happy in each other's company - based on pictures of them out and about. I don't think there will be any issues in that respect when they are representing the SRF.

Her outfits and general styling has been appropriate at occasions such as opening of parliament and the weddings/christenings she has been photographed at. Again, IMO there will be no issues in that regard.

I'd be interested to hear how she did during any interview she's given since the engagement, as well as how she is when the spotlight is on the SRF as a whole. I have my misgivings about her, but at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. I'm not Swedish, and am not represented by the family she is marrying into. I am curious as to how the Swedish public really feels about her since the engagement, and now months after the announcement. Has public opinion changed for the better? For the worse?.

I am not aware that the Swedish government has anything to do with who CP should marry; he's not the future crown-head. It would be unwise of CG and Silvia to interfere, because CG married who he liked and CP would do what he wants anyway.

For any member of the Swedish royal family to marry and retain their succession rights, they need the permission of the Swedish Government, as laid out in §5 of the 1801 Order of Succession, part of the constitution:

"Princes and Princesses of the Royal House may not marry unless the Government, at the request of the King, given its consent thereto. If is not done, he forfeits the right to inherit the Kingdom for themselves, children and descendants."

Svensk författningssamling 1810:0926 Successionsordning (1810:0926); - riksdagen.se

It is unlikely the Government would have disapproved of one of the three children's marriages, unless they were marrying someone who had committed a grave crime or something along those lines.

Am I correct in believing that CP is next in the succession after Victoria and Estelle?

Thanks for that info! I was wrong assuming I knew what was the case. - Having said that, I don't think it means anything other than a formality. The government would not oppose CG's formal request, and he wouldn't put it forward unless he had approved it. And I don't think he had much choice other than do so.
