Birthday present
His Royal Highness The Prince of Orange has been promoted in his military ranks. He is now Commander in the Royal Netherlands Navy reserve, Brigade General in the Royal Netherlands Army reserve and Commodore in the Royal Netherlands Air Force reserve. Also he is now Brigade General of the Royal Military Constabulary reserve. I hope the ranks are correct translated to English |

he is not active in the army,
I think that is one silly tradition to promote royals for doing nothing in particular in that particular field. Quote:

Yes, but when he is King he'll be head of the Armed Forces anyway (that is if the Dutch system is anything like the Norwegian). So recieveing promotion in the force which he wasn't trained might still give him an opportunity to learn really good the forces routines.

From www.koninklijkhuis.nl:
--------------------------- Military career The Prince performed his military service in the Royal Netherlands Navy from August 1985 to January 1987. After several months' training at the Royal Naval Institute in Den Helder, the Prince served on board the frigates HMS Tromp and HMS Abraham Crijnssen. In 1988, he received refresher training, serving as a duty officer on board the frigate HMS Van Kinsbergen. After graduating in 1993, the Prince gained his Military Pilot's Licence with 334 Transport Squadron of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. In 1994, the Prince spent several months at the Netherlands Defence College, studying aspects of the work of the Royal Netherlands Army and Air Force. He also paid a number of working visits to the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps and the Royal Military Constabulary. In 1995 and 1996, Prince Willem-Alexander visited the troops stationed in Bosnia, the Dutch-German Army Corps, and NATO manoeuvres in Norway. In 2001, he visited the Dutch units stationed in Ethiopia and Eritrea as part of UNMEE (United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea). The Prince holds the following ranks in the armed services: Captain in the Royal Netherlands Navy reserve, Colonel in the Royal Netherlands Army reserve and Colonel in the Royal Netherlands Air Force reserve. On 6 December 2001, he was awarded the Officers' Long Service Decoration, awarded to officers who have served for more than 15 years. The Prince is also Aide-de-Camp Extraordinary to Her Majesty the Queen. --------------- From BRMB, posted by henri m. --------------- On this pic the Prince is wearing the 'DT' (Daily Tenue) Commandeur in the Royal Netherlands Navy Reserve. (One broad golden galon band with one star). He still can be promoted to: Sheriff-at-Night (Rear Admiral) (One broad golden galon band with two stars) Vice-Admiral (One broad golden galon band with three stars) Lieutenant-Admiral (One broad golden galon band with four stars) The highest rank of Admiral is only by tradition. I believe the King only (One broad golden galon band with two crossed marshall-sceptres) The Prince is also promoted to the rank of Brigade-General of the Royal Netherlands Army Reserve. (A golden laurel wreath with one star). He can still be promoted to: General-Major (A golden laurel wreath with two stars). Lieuntenant-General (A golden laurel wreath with three stars). General (A golden laurel wreath with four stars). The Prince is also promoted to the rank of Commodore of the Royal Netherlands Air Force Reserve (One broad band of blue-grey galon). He still can be promoted to: General-Major (One broad and one small band of blue-grey galon). Lieuntenant-General (One broad and two small bands of blue-grey galon). General (One broad and three small bands of blue-grey galon. The Prince is also promoted to the rank of Brigade-General of the Royal Marechaussee Reserve. (A silver laurel wreath with one star). Does anyone have a picture of Maxima at this: HRH Princess Maxima and PM Balkenende were at Innovation Lecture 2005 4/27/05 in the Hall of Knights,'s-Gravenhage.
The (yearly)Innovation Lecture is organised by the Ministry of Economical Affairs and aims at improving knowledge of several facets of innovation and to give an impuls to public discussion concerning this theme. This underlines the importance of innovation as a pillar of a competative and strong Dutch economy. Guestspeaker was Nicholas Donofrio,Senior Vice President Technology IBM Corporation. sourc:www.koninklijkhuis.nl |
