That's only one week later :flowers:

So, the British schools follow the 'North' schedule posted above (unless they start later than the first Monday of September).

Actually that's English schools. Scottish schools have been on holiday since June 29th.

"It was with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Kofi Annan. We remember his warmth and wisdom. He worked tirelessly for peace, justice and a better life for people all over the world. Kofi Annan had the ability to bring people together. With a voice that resonated with compassion and conviction, he knew how to engage and motivate people. Our thoughts are with his wife and children."

Kofi Annan was a private friend of the royal couple. He was a guest at their wedding in 2013 at the Investiture in 2016:

:previous: I didn't realise there were three royal dogs! I'm guessing that Skipper is one of the puppies they kept from the litter that they were giving away?
Gorgeous pups!

Queen Maxima cancel her visit to Tanzania on 6-7 November because of health problems:

"Her Majesty Queen Máxima has to rest on doctor's advice in the coming period. Due to health complaints, there is a suspicion that she has an intestinal infection. Further tests must confirm this diagnosis. As a result, she will cancell her planned trip to Tanzania, which she will undertake on 6 and 7 November a.s. as a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive financing for development."

Luna is the puppy, Nala her mom. Skipper has been around for quite some time (his first photo call was in 2013; but he had been around for some time before his first inclusion in a photo call). Nala was added in 2014 (showed up for the first time on the 2014 christmas card).

Hopefully they'll know woon what is going on. She still attended her engagement today but doesn't have anything official scheduled until late November.

That sounds unpleasant, and it’s unfortunate she’ll miss the trip. Wishing her a speedy recovery!

The King on Saturday co-piloted a commercial flight from Amsterdam to Istanbul and the return flight to Amsterdam.

I'm trying to figure out why I'm not warming up to this photo. Individually, all the portraits are very good: good color, flattering in a realistic way, good lighting. But there's something about the way they are lined that is unsettling to me, as if they aren't individuals, but replicants or something.

I like the setting in Noordeinde Palace with the open doors to create depth into the adjacent salon. One constante in King Willem-Alexander (and his mother's) Christmas Addresses: never a Christmas tree is in sight.

Only at the start of the Christmas Address, a camera flies over the palace cour and captures an illuminated tree outside. It is kind of strange because the annual Christmas exhibitions at Het Loo Palace show the Orange-Nassaus love Christmas decorations.

It is actually an old tradition to place royals en profile without looking to each other or looking away from the camera. From the first portrait photos on, this was a frequently used setting. I like it. It is different from the usual summer and winter photos. An injection of glamour. Very Olaf.

I might be one of the odd ones out though I have to say that I'm not a fan of the Christmas photo from the family. It feels very sombre for Christmas, almost like a funeral portrait. Seems like a lot of airbrushing has been going on too. There's a lot you could do with a royal Christmas photoshoot and have a nice, festive card.

This one wasn't done as a Christmas photoshoot. It is part of the photoshoot in March for the king's 5 year reign (on April 30).

I had never previously seen the library of Noordeinde Palace before what a beautiful room to film the kings Christmas speech.

I’m aware of that. It was posted as a Christmas greeting on the royal family’s Instagram account and thats what I was referring to.

You might have been aware but others might have thought this was a recent photoshoot, just like several people thought Amalia's recent birthday portrait was new.

The Dutch royal family doesn't seem to do christmas photoshoots, they typically pick a picture that was taken sometime throughout the year and that's fine with me. Although to me something is off with this specific picture that has to do with their eyes not being exactly aligned (that could be called nitpicking but I'm just sharing my impression).

Indeed, I appreciate the details that you and other members share. As I do not closely follow many topics, I am often unaware of details which may seem evident to the members who do closely follow them.

More royals release cards without any Christmas reference. The Waleses, the Cambridges, the Sussexes, etc. The old custom of cards with a Nativity scene is sadly disappearing.

I don't like the photo at all. The photo I did like was the one they used in 2016 for their Christmas greeting (where they are sitting on that bench).

I do like the Chritsmas environment, lights, presents, colors...But I'm not sad about the nativity scene being disappearing. There are people who don't celebrate Christmas, due to beliefs, religion, morals, whatever it is...This way their Cards "only" have the Christmas name, while the picture is "available" for everybody. I like that they are becoming universally acessible to every human being.
