I have read about the media code. Do other European royals have a similar code and is it respected as the Dutch one seems to be?

TM ,both big U2 fans, attended last nights U2 concert at the Ziggo Dome,Amsterdam. It was the last concert in a series of four before moving on to Stockholm.

Bono dedicated a song to the late Prince Friso.

La revolucionaria dieta de Maxima - Caras
This article came in one of Argentina's magazine and state that Maxima lost 10 kilos in a revolutionary diet by the company New Fysic , a Dutch company.
She and her family are with a better diet and she has a Physical trainer that takes her to bike and run, though she admits she doesn't like aerobics.
Wonder if it is true all what they say????????????

The part about the company NewFysic appears to be true, their website also contains a link to a recent interview with the queen mentioning this

Apparently gossip mag Prive also had an artivle about the queen's "fight with the pounds" in 2010 which is also on the NewFysic website (url opens pdf, unfortunately not in english)

It makes sense. Maxima's husband is overweight, which suggests there may be problems with the family's diet that require professional intervention.

Seeing how the members of the royal family are enlisted, can we say that the order of precedence at the Netherlands Royal Court is as follows:

1. HM The King
2. HM Queen Máxima
3. HRH The Princess of Orange
4. HRH Princess Beatrix
5. HRH Princess Alexia
6. HRH Princess Ariane
7. HRH Princess Margriet
8. Professor Mr Pieter van Vollenhoven LL.M.

I was in the assumption that Princess Beatrix came right after the royal couple but now I see that Princess Catharina-Amalia is placed before her grandmother. Princess Beatrix however still has precedence over Amalia's younger sisters.

In some way I think it is a logic precedence, that the future Queen ranks higher than the Queen who has abdicated.

Leden Koninklijk Huis | Het Koninklijk Huis

For what is this order of precedence used?

As it says: to designate who comes before who when all members are together.

At the Investiture of King Willlem-Alexander in 2013 it became clear the Order of Precedence was exactly followed by the Dutch Court:
- heads of state
- consorts to a head of state (HRH before HH)
- Heirs (HIH before HRH)
- within the same rank: the anciennity of the Reign counts

This Picture shows it all:

First row
The Prince of Monaco (a head of state)
HRH The Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco (consort since 1999, HRH comes before HH)
HH The Sheikha Mozah (consort since 1995)
The Crown Prince of Japan and Princess Masako (HIH comes before HRH)
The Crown Prince of Thailand and Princess Sirindhorn (1948)
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall (1952)
The Crown Prince and -Princess of Brunei (1968)

Second row
The Crown Prince and -Princess of Denmark (1972)
The Crown Princess of Sweden and Prince Daniel (1973)
The Prince and Princess of Asturias (1975)
The Hereditary Prince and -Princess of Liechtenstein (1989)
The Crown Prince and -Princess of Norway (1991)
The Duke and Duchess of Brabant (1993)

Third row
Prince Hassan of Jordan (Crown Prince between 1965-1999) and Princess Sarvath
The Hereditary Grand Duke and -Duchess of Luxembourg (2000)

Etc.

So if the order on the website is indeed the order of precedence, then we will see Amalia escorting her grandmother when they are all together.

This Order of Precedence was already visible at the Investiture 2013: the Princess of Orange came before Princess Beatrix, her younger sisters came after her.

See picture

Behind them we see Princess Irene with her second son Prince Jaime, but he was without partner and acted as his mother's escort. We also see Princess Christina with her second son Nicolàs Guillermo but he was without partner and acted as his mother's escort. That explains their somewhat unlogic seating on the second row. That Princess Mabel is seated before Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien probably has to do with the fact that she was married to the eldest brother of King Willem-Alexander ànd was the escort to Princess Beatrix when she walked from and to the palace.

Her weight loss has been noticeable over the past year. Congratulations to her if she's found a plan that keeps her healthy and fit with her busy role. This is the slimmest that I've seen her since her wedding day in 2002.

Thanks for this update - what a relief Maxima is home after such a long journey. It's good to see she is up and about able to walk, always a good sign.

Yes, other Royal Houses try to find their way in the ever-demanding and fast-changing media-world as well. Remember the recent threat by Kensington Palace to start legal procedures when little Prince George is not left alone. Swedish, Dutch and monégasque royals have started lawsuits against what was felt as unlawful infringements in the right on enoying a private lifesphere.

There is (was) a lot of nagging about the Media Code but over the course of years it seems it has settled somewhat. Both the Royal House and the media seem to have found a way. I don't hear too much nagging anymore and I have the idea the royals are indeed left alone in private circumstances.

I suppose it is relatively easy for the press to stick to the media code at this mpoint as little juicy stories can be epected from the RF. I suppose that it will be more difficult when the princesses start dating as they will get more interesting for the magazines.

Queen Maxima has been in hospital for about 3 days now and we still don't have any information on her condition. That is very worrisome.

Not neccessarily. The newsreports wrote that they would take samples to see which specific bacteria is causing her illness. That would take a day. Then they would look which medicin works best against the bug, that would take another day. So, acvording to schedual, they have just given her antobiotics. And now she has to respond and recover.

Actually, culturing a sample takes from a few days to a couple of weeks. More likely than not, they are treating her symptoms and using a process of elimination to determine what's going on, based on what medicines she responds to.

It may also take a couple of days for antibiotics to start working or show a noticeable affect, so Queen Maxima may well stay in hospital for a good few days yet.

Many thanks Lee,I was just going to ask was there any further updates on Her Majesty.

Fantastic news! Still will take a few days to a couple of weeks to recover. For difficult infections, antibiotics can be taken for up to 14 days and maybe even a week longer to make sure all of microbes are killed. Still good news for her family and I am sure we all wish her a speedy recovery!:D:)

It's wonderful to hear that Maxima is well enough to be released from hospital and rest at home. I can imagine that the AAAs will be particularly glad to see her again. It must have been hard for them when their mother was ill in China.

An article on the website of the state broadcaster NOS about the UN functions of the king and queen:

Koning en koningin sterk verbonden met VN | NOS

- the king was in NYC last week to close the advisorty board on sanitation and water, of which he was the chairman.

- the queen was in Bangladesh for the UN too.

- the writer says that you can regard these functions as royal volunteering. Or even less respectfully: 'activity threrapy'. He states that many functions in the Netherlands are rather shallow: cutting ribbons and other representative events. This can be frustrating and by working for the UN they can show their other qualities and do somthing useful for society.

The Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws received a thank you note from the Dutch court for their 'pity package'. Because the Dutch footbal team is not going to the European championship footbal in 2016 while the Belgian team is, the newspaper sent the package to 50 well-known Dutchmen, among them the king. The package contained a footbal shirt of the Belgian team, Belgian flags, sunglasses and red horns (as the nickname of the Belgian team is the 'red devils' The court said that the gesture was 'especially appreciated'.
