A Pakistani news article of Maxima meeting the Pakistani PM with a photo and video of the meeting.

ISLAMABAD: Queen Maxima of the Netherlands called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as she began her three-day visit as part of global efforts to promote financial inclusion on Tuesday.

The queen is visiting Pakistan in the capacity of UN Secretary General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Inclusive Finance for Development.

During the meeting at PM House in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan valued its relations with the Netherlands, both bilaterally and within the context of the European Union.

He appreciated Queen Maxima’s devotion to promote Financial Inclusion for Development, saying her visit would provide an added stimulus to stakeholders to achieve the goal with full zeal and spirit.

PM Nawaz said government was prioritising financial inclusion as a national objective through the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) and Pakistan was committed to ensure successful implementation of the strategy.

In this respect, a Youth Loan Scheme was yielding significant dividends in encouraging sustainable inclusive growth by investing in the country’s human capital and empowering women, he said.

Queen Maxima said greater access of women to smartphones across the country would help a great deal in empowering women in the country.

She will also hold discussions with representatives of international organisations, financial organisations, telecom companies and micro-finance institutions to explore their role in improving access to financial services such as savings, payments, credit and insurance.

Launched in May 2015, the NFIS aims to expand the availability of financial tools the poor need to protect themselves against hardship and improve their lives.

wow, what a great surprise! i didn't know maxima was going to pakistan.

she is such a support to the microfinance cause, it's great to see her getting so involved in improving access to money for people.

i loved this pic of maxima's happy self and also seeing her with no make up as she stepped out of the plane - a rare royal sight! the daily mail also noticed this and put an accompanying picture. 'Queen Maxima of the Netherlands went make-up free as she arrived at Islamabad airport in Pakistan on Monday after an 11-hour flight from her home in Holland'

she wore the scarf she was given as a welcoming gift on her second day in the country. coincidentally, it seems to match her burgundy outfit quite well, so i guess maxima thought it would go great with her new gift and a nice gesture to pakistan. according to the article, 'The Queen was greeted at Islamabad airport on Monday with a colourful rainbow scarf and showed her gratitude as she was pictured wearing it today'.

it looks like she flew on a scheduled flight from qatar airways, and that she was welcomed to the country by the daughters of the prime minister, if i am not mistaken?

No, carlota :flowers: the two women welcoming Maxima are Jeannette Seppen, the Dutch ambassador to Pakistan and Marvi Memon, a politician from the prime minister's party, she accompanied Maxima to some of her later engagements. The prime minister's daughter (Maryam Nawaz) only welcomed her one day later at her visit to PM house and also held a dinner for her. The other day they together visited another women finance programme together.

I love her visit to Pakistan. Generally the world associates this country with other things that's not so positive. But I'm glad that Maxima's visit at least shed some light on and showed to more people (well at least mostly Dutch people and royal watchers I guess) that Pakistan is more than just what the media reports on. Also it's a country that not many royals visit so this is a nice visit in my opinion.

Accoring to Vorsten, the queen always travels to these UN functions without a hairdresser, dresser and lady-in-waiting. She is usually accompanied by security, her personal secretary and an adjudant.

The visit is planned by the local UN quarters, UN employees in New York (the article names them 'Máxima's employees in NY'), the Dutch embassy and the host government. The planning is detailed to 5 minutes or sometimes even to the minute, as was the case in Bogor.

The adjudant is expected to keep an eye on the time scheduele. Five minutes before the end of a meeting he/she seeks eye contact with the queen so HM is able to look at a way to finish the conversation. It was not possible for the adjudant to walk into the meeting the queen had with the president Widodo, which meant that the meeting lasted 15 minutes longer than planned.

In her press meeting after the visit, the queen spoke about the big improvements and ambitious plans for increasing financial access in Indonesia from 36% now to 75% in 2019. This project was explained by president Widodo. The queen claimed that banks and financial services would be able to play a significant role in improving the lives of many Indonesians, 40% of which live below the poverty thresold. She also mentioned that Indonesia was a unique case; the country contains 1000s of islands which is an extra challange. It also meant that it takes a longer time to visit more remote parts, which HM hoped to do at a later occassion.

The conference is n the 11th and 12th of October, so sadly that means that the journalists were correct and she will not be able to receive the Duchess of Cambridge on the 11th.
