Villa in Greece for Willem-Alexander and Máxima: April 2012

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I really am not sure about the arrangements for the new king and queen but didn't WA and Maxima fly on the same plane as Beatrix when she was Queen? That would suggest to me that they don't regularly fly separately in the same way the British and Danish Royals do.

No they don't most of the time, correct.

In Greece some controversy started due to the intervention of 3 government ministers to enable the construction of a private harbor at the house of WA and Máxima in Kranidi.

The RVD refused to comment on the issue.

in the process RTL news discovered tht the Dutch state was involved with the acquisition of the villa after all. The state bought some land around the villa for safety reasons.

The prime minister earlier said that the acquisition of the villa is a private affair of the couple.

According to Greek environmentalists, the 3 Greek ministers gave a permit to build a harbor by evading all existing regulations on these matters.

He thinks that the publicity is a powerful instrument used by the protestors. However, the Dutch media reports about an illigal contruction: but how can it be illegal when a building permit has been given? It could be that the procedures haven't been correct, but thus far nobody has proven this.

two members of parlament (Labour & the Socialist Party) want a clarification of the prime minister about the issue.

The RVD has clarified some issues. The state didn't buy land around the house but is leasing it. The national coordinator for terrorist prevention and safety has adviced various safety measures, among them the lease of land and the construction of a (small) harbour and the lease of a plot of land. The illegal constructions that the Greek protestors are referring to, is probably the construction of a building for the security personel.

That seawall looks huge and the paint does nothing to slim it any ;)
It's big and ugly and I understand why the locals may be fussing.

The prime minister answered the chamber yesterday.

- There was already a wooden harbor when the house was bought
- the wooden harbor was replaced by one of concrete for safety reasons
- a security building and a safety fence will be added to the property, permits have been asked from the Greek authorities
- although it is a private trip, security costs are to be paid for by the state
- the king has to pay rent to the state if he wants to use the harbor

Actually, I think it is quite a nice little harbour, although I would have chosen local stone or granite. A few lobster pots and some old rope would finish it off very nicely.

According to the Telegraaf newspaper, the plot of land next to the villa has been sold. The new neighbours of the king and queen are Marc Dreesmann and his wife Janneke Beerkens. Dreesmann founded 'Commenwealth Investments' and is a member of the billionaire family Dreesmann, of the V&D department stores/Vendex -now Maxeda.

Mr. and Mrs. Dreesmann are living in Brasschaat, Belgium, where they built a Disney-esque palace. Not in the best taste, but well...

Marc Dreesmann is the youngest son of the late Prof. Dr. Anton Dreesmann, one of the big captains of industry of The Netherlands. He was a hereditary papal noble and viscount of Cairú (Brazil). Marc's late aunt, the family rebel Cécile Dreesmann was a well known Dutch socialite & artist, who was rumoured to have had an affair with Prince Bernhard. The family is from Amsterdam originally and very catholic. Mrs. Dreesmann-Beerkens is in the board of various art and human rights foundations. They also sponsor the Prince Claus Fund.

Interesting that there is still a large "us knows us" around the royal family. That is nothing new, Princess Beatrix has always been very befriended with the Heineken family, Prince Bernhard was close to the Philips family. Princess Maria Carolina has married a Brenninkmeijer (the richest family of the Netherlands) and now the King is neighbours with a Dreesmann, the family still in the top 5 ot top 10 of most wealthy Dutchies, depending how it is (not) calculated since some of them have chosen domicily in Belgium.

:previous: It is a villa, and yes it is amazing. No wonder they were eager to go on holiday there, I don't blame them a bit!:whistling:
