I have to agree with Salonica and Lucien here. I visit Greece at least twice a year, the people there are too concerned about their survival and how to find ways to increase their income. Most of them may feel sad, almost depressed, but they certainly don't hate the ordinary people from abroad. They may be enraged by their own politicians and some politicians of the most significant EU countries but this is it. Tourists are warmly welcome by both the people and the professionals, and I do believe that both WA & Maxima have set a great example with their recent purchase. Their message is clear: do not fear to visit Greece and enjoy the beaches, the food and all the hospitality and beauty this country has to offer! I for once am planning a whole month in Crete this summer, and I'm looking forward to it!

Prince Willem-Alexander stated this morning that rebuilding/refurbishing work on the Greek villa will start after the summer and he said he hopes the family can start using the villa for holidaying as of next year!He also stated they've been holidaying in Greece for several subsequent years now and they love it there.

Magazine 'Weekend' has some new photos of the house of WA and Mxima in greece. It seems that the builders and painters are almost done. A 2nd pool was added to too. I didn't find the new pictures online yet.

That is what was said by a dutch royalty journalist on RTL. But the RVD didn't confirm this (they usually don't).

When WA, Maxima and the girls travel do they all go on the same plane or do they split up into 2 different flights?

I really am not sure about the arrangements for the new king and queen but didn't WA and Maxima fly on the same plane as Beatrix when she was Queen? That would suggest to me that they don't regularly fly separately in the same way the British and Danish Royals do.

In Greece some controversy started due to the intervention of 3 government ministers to enable the construction of a private harbor at the house of WA and Mxima in Kranidi.

The RVD refused to comment on the issue.

in the process RTL news discovered tht the Dutch state was involved with the acquisition of the villa after all. The state bought some land around the villa for safety reasons.

The prime minister earlier said that the acquisition of the villa is a private affair of the couple.

-
According to Greek environmentalists, the 3 Greek ministers gave a permit to build a harbor by evading all existing regulations on these matters.

'Staat toch betrokken bij vakantiehuis koningspaar' - Binnenland - VK

http://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/binne...er#node_898736

---------
Royalblog puts the issue in perspective:

http://gpdhome.typepad.com/nieuwsber...ng-koning.html

He thinks that the publicity is a powerful instrument used by the protestors. However, the Dutch media reports about an illigal contruction: but how can it be illegal when a building permit has been given? It could be that the procedures haven't been correct, but thus far nobody has proven this.

---

Added:

two members of parlament (Labour & the Socialist Party) want a clarification of the prime minister about the issue.
http://www.volkskrant.nl/vk/nl/2686/...ingspaar.dhtml

The RVD has clarified some issues. The state didn't buy land around the house but is leasing it. The national coordinator for terrorist prevention and safety has adviced various safety measures, among them the lease of land and the construction of a (small) harbour and the lease of a plot of land. The illegal constructions that the Greek protestors are referring to, is probably the construction of a building for the security personel.

That seawall looks huge and the paint does nothing to slim it any
It's big and ugly and I understand why the locals may be fussing.

The prime minister answered the chamber yesterday.

- There was already a wooden harbor when the house was bought
- the wooden harbor was replaced by one of concrete for safety reasons
- a security building and a safety fence will be added to the property, permits have been asked from the Greek authorities
- although it is a private trip, security costs are to be paid for by the state
- the king has to pay rent to the state if he wants to use the harbor
