Is there any word of someone from the Dutch royal family coming to NY as part of the 400th anniversary celebration of Henry Hudson's voyage?

I can't find anything on the website of the RF but I believe WA and Máxima will go to NYC.

Thanks Marengo and have a wonderful weekend!

For when is this scheduled?

PRESS RELEASE Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands at NY400 celebrations in September

June 25, 2009

The Netherlands, Thursday, June 25 - Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands will participate in the celebrations of NY400 in New York from September 9 till September 13th. These celebrations are marking four hundred years of friendship between the Netherlands and the United States of America.
NY400 offers an opportunity to pay attention to the history, present and future of the relations between the two countries and shared values such as freedom, tolerance and equal opportunity. The NY400 activities are aiming at further intensifying the cooperation between the USA and the Netherlands in the 21st century. Two countries - one spirit, united by values, history and a vision of the future.
NY400 is the result of an initiative by the Dutch Government in close co-operation with Dutch local and provincial authorities, with New York City and New York State, and with active participation of a great number of organizations from the private, cultural and not-for-profit sectors.

The special bond between the Dutch royals and New York is highlighted in archival photographs that document past monarchs' visits to the Empire State, among them Princess Beatrix's 1959 trip to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Hudson's historic voyage. The exhibition coincides with the September 2009 visit to New York of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Maxima for the 400th commemoration of Henry Hudson's arrival in the New World.

New Amsterdaqm - New York 400

Three vessels of the Dutch Royal Navy have left for New York,Her Majesty's fregats " Tromp","van Speijk" and minesweaper "Urk".

The "Tromp" will host the Royal Gala on september 12th,while the band of the Royal Marines will perform on various occasions during
the celebration of the arrival of the "Halve Maen" (Halve Moon) 400 years ago.

TRH will also commemorate the 9/11 tragedy at Ground Zero.

The NY400 Harbour week starts with taking the salute of the fleet, the three navy vessels as well as a fleet of over 20 what we call "platbodems" .And the week will also be concluded with the salute of a fleet of over 100 vessels.

I wonder why she gets the award, due to what achievements?

I wonder why she gets the award, due to what achievements?

I wouldn't know. Her hubby got one years ago,so did Nelson Mandela, but Mrs C?Maybe instead of cuddling up,or to inspire her to get the The Hague invasion act out to the trashcan. She said in a discussion with students in Kenia two weeks ago that she regretted the US had not yet acknowledged the International Criminal Court at The Hague. This is seen as a sign the US actually will soon acknowledge the institution, and also will revoke the The Hague Invasion Act.It shouldn't have been there in the first place, now,it's just old palls cudling and gigling and trying to get their common act together again. That takes feathers here and there....

Guess this gets the message of our severe and deep discontent across, and also, how we hope for a place in the DC trashcans for both the documents as well as those who invented it.The FFA helps to get there,hence....but it was an outcry in the first place that the "act" was there at all as we Dutch feel, and rightfully so.

The Four Freedoms Award, here since the roots of Franklin Delano Roosevelt were dutch, from the province of Zeeland actually. The Award is handed out annually, but bi-annually either in The Netherlands at the Monastery of Middleburg,
Capital of the Province of Zeeland,or in the US.The entire Roosevelt clan still loves their meetings/reunions to be here in Zeeland,to this day.

Thanks for the information...Lucien.

It might be time to make a trip up 95! I what type of press they will get from the NY papers.

Thank you for posting the schedule of events. It appears that they'll be busy.

How wonderful, this should be a wonderful trip. :flowers:

Visit to the New Netherlands Project at the New York State Library (NNP focussed on translating the

Nice that they are visiting the archives. One historian (Gehring) has been very dedicated to translate all the Dutch sources into English, a project he started in the 70-ties. Russell Shorto used a lot of this material for his excellent: 'New-Amsterdam, the island at the center of the world'.

The visit seems to be rather high profile, meeting Hillary Clinton twice. But then it is a special occassion of course. A pity that HM the queen couldn't attend part of the programme. It will be interesting to see if the prince can behave this time or if he starts yelling to the press again like he did during his visit to New Zealand and Australia. The last visits to NY were not free of akward moments either. The visit with Maxima a few years ago saw a sulking prince and princess, angry at the press (as Max Westerman frequently reminds us of) while WA's visit in 2000 made him refer to an 'open letter' by Videla himself. And on another note, it would be nice if princess Máxima would pay some attention to her wardrobe and her hairstyle.

Dutch Royal invasion in New York City
The invasion mainly due to the wedding of Bernardo and Eva and the christening of their daughter Isabel during that service. But Alexander ands Máxima will stay on and most probably also will have a meeting with President and Mrs.Obama some time next week, most likely on thursday.

News Summary Royalblog.nl: Dutch royal invasion in New York

Busy schedule. It's cool they're meeting President Obama. Wonder if they'll get to do any sight seeing on their own, maybe take in a show.

The dutch invasion : The prince of Orange and Princess Maxima, Princess Laurentien, Prince Maurits and Princess Marilene, Princess Annette, Prince Floris and Princess Aimee, who will start their two weeks holiday (so I suppose they are with their children), Princess Margarita and Tjalling ten Caten and but not sure Prince Carlos, Prince Jaime and Princess Carolina de Bourbon de Parme

While I'm happy to see the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Neau Amsterdam/New York attended by the Dutch Royal Family, I'd rather it not be WA & Maxima. The whole lawsuit against the Associated Press has left a bad taste in my mouth for them.....well, him. I'm also surprised that this is the first I'm hearing of a 400th anniversary celebration.

I feel exactly the same way. I'm torn between hoping that he gets hounded relentlessly by the media the whole time he's here and hoping he gets completely snubbed without absolutely no coverage at all.

I suspect it will be closer to the latter, as his visit is not exactly big news here under any circumstances. The Albany media might cover it as a local story when he's up there, but the NYC papers are unlikely to pay any attention, unless they run a story about the AP suit.

The visit to the Obama´s is on except that they will visit Mrs.Obama and the President might pop-in,as to avoid that, while this is
not a State Visit, more Royals would wish to have the same treatment in simular cases in the future.According to dutch paper `Telegraaf`.
Anyway, they will meet.Simular cases, hmm,we founded NYC,can´t recall anyone else involved, let alone a Royal from abroad

But first,Patrick will take great pics of the wedding today!
