The Prince of Orange will hand out the "Appeltjes van Oranje" at Noordeinde Palace today. An annual award for projects in the field of social wellbeing and social cohesion,an initiative of the Orange Foundation of which both Máxima and Alexander are Patrons..
As Princess Máxima usually hands out the Appeltjes,it's now the Prince who has the honors;"finally, and I'm looking forward to it" as he said with a grin.
The prize consists of 15.000 euro's as well as an orange appel designed and made by HM The Queen,an established artist/sculptur.

Yesterday and today HRH payed a surprise visit to the dutch troops in Afghanistan at camp Holland in Tarin Kowt in the Uruzgan province. The Prince was the first of the RF to visit the troops there to give them moral support. It was the Prince's second visit to Afghanistan, three years ago he visited Kabul with then state secretary of defence van der Knaap.
Due to safety reasons the visit was kept secret, until he ran into a dutch journalist....
Alexander also met with President Karzai earlyer today.

Here is the Speech by the Prince of Oranje,
which he held (earlier) today May 31, 2007 at the start of the Asian Dialogue at the Eighth Meeting of the Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, Shanghai
The power of numbers
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome. As chairman of UNSGAB – the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation – it is only fitting that I first say a few words of thanks. To start with, I should like to thank the Chinese government for its hospitality, again underscoring its commitment to the world water agenda. I should also like to thank our co-host, the Asian Development Bank, an indispensable partner in the region. And finally I should like to thank all of you for coming here today. I am pleased that so many governments and stakeholder organisations are represented. For me that is proof that you – like us – endorse the significance of MDG seven, target ten – to reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015.
The 2007 report of the Joint Monitoring Programme for Water supply and Sanitation shows that remarkable progress has been made on water supply since 1990. Nevertheless, most countries are still not on track to meet the 2015 target. That is cause for concern. And it is even greater cause for concern that progress on the sanitation targets is lagging far behind. One of the reasons for this is a significant decline in official development assistance for water and sanitation. As the Human Development Report 2006 clearly states, in 2004 international aid for water and sanitation was less than in 2000, the year the Millennium Development Goals were adopted.

It is very interesting. From ancient greek and roman coins to the first 'notes'. Golden and silver coins. War coins during WWII. Commemorative coins. The evolution of banknotes into high tech printworks. Frauds. False money. The various designs during the centuries, etc. The transfer to the Euro. Today's production of Euro coins and notes.
The building of the Royal Netherlands Mint alone is worth a visit.
Here another pic.
On the building you can read: "Het geld hier uit metaal verkregen zij nooit ten vloek doch steeds ten zegen" (litterally: The money, in here from metal obtained, be never cursed but ever blessed")
