He looks great, as ever...But a Money Museum..Hmmm. I 'm not very "monetary". Of course, money is important to live, but we shouldn't give money more mportance that the one she has.

Vanesa.
It is very interesting. From ancient greek and roman coins to the first 'notes'. Golden and silver coins. War coins during WWII. Commemorative coins. The evolution of banknotes into high tech printworks. Frauds. False money. The various designs during the centuries, etc. The transfer to the Euro. Today's production of Euro coins and notes.

The building of the Royal Netherlands Mint alone is worth a visit.

Here another pic.

On the building you can read: "Het geld hier uit metaal verkregen zij nooit ten vloek doch steeds ten zegen" (litterally: The money, in here from metal obtained, be never cursed but ever blessed")

As posted by Marianne on the Benelux Royals MB:

Quote:
Here is the Speech by the Prince of Oranje,
which he held (earlier) today May 31, 2007 at the start of the Asian Dialogue at the Eighth Meeting of the Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, Shanghai

The power of numbers
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome. As chairman of UNSGAB – the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation – it is only fitting that I first say a few words of thanks. To start with, I should like to thank the Chinese government for its hospitality, again underscoring its commitment to the world water agenda. I should also like to thank our co-host, the Asian Development Bank, an indispensable partner in the region. And finally I should like to thank all of you for coming here today. I am pleased that so many governments and stakeholder organisations are represented. For me that is proof that you – like us – endorse the significance of MDG seven, target ten – to reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015.
The 2007 report of the Joint Monitoring Programme for Water supply and Sanitation shows that remarkable progress has been made on water supply since 1990. Nevertheless, most countries are still not on track to meet the 2015 target. That is cause for concern. And it is even greater cause for concern that progress on the sanitation targets is lagging far behind. One of the reasons for this is a significant decline in official development assistance for water and sanitation. As the Human Development Report 2006 clearly states, in 2004 international aid for water and sanitation was less than in 2000, the year the Millennium Development Goals were adopted.

I was hoping he would wear a cape or something, but I suppose they only do that for more formal occassions. I actually don't recall that I ever saw him with the cape belonging to this order. Are all members of the RF also members of the order or just Beatrix and Willem-Alexander?

HM is Honorary Commander of the Order in The Netherlands,i recall pictures of her installation as a member of the Order.Queen Juliana also was Honorary Commander while Prince Bernhard was a Commander IIRC.I don't think other members of the RF are also members of the Johanniter Order.

Oh yes he is a Knight,Rechtsridder,of the Order.

The order,of protestant denomination, has 600 members and derives from the Knightly Order of the Hospital of St.John, founded almost a thousand years ago.The Order has over 3000 volunteers who work in hospitals and hospices.

The Order helps people that face difficulties in their lives, senior citizens, the sick, the homeless, addicts. They also support care and health institutions.

Since 1957 they organise (5 annually now) holiday weeks for 24 sick and needy, aged 50 - 90,with a one on one volunteer.A new activity are the holiday weekends for youngsters with a handicap, with volunteers in the matching age.All in all wonderfull work.

The Order is governed by the Kapittel, untill his death HRH Prince Bernhard was Commander of the Johanniter Oreder in The Netherlands.

On October 1995 His Royal Highness The Prince of Orange became a member of The Most Illustrious and Most Noble Brotherhood of Our Sweet Lady (the Brothers of the Swan) in 's-Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc), established in 1318. See article. However Catholic, it does accept a limited number of Protestant noblemen inside their Brotherhood.

On June 8th 1996 His Royal Highness The Prince of Orange was created Knight Companion to The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. The investiture was performed by his grandfather, His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, Prince of Lippe-Biesterfeld. See article.

Especially the Brotherhood of Our Sweet Lady has a splendid housing in 's-Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc), called Het Zwanenbroedershuis.

In RTL Boulevard I saw him speaking to the Austrian or German press (ijn German anyway), he is very fluent in German. One of the things he said was that more children die from lack of water than from AIDS at the moment.
