Last week, the CP Family has been seen together outside in a boat.
Picture

"Crown family followed its journey along with hundreds

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit had also made the trip out with the boat, along with the children and Mette-Marit's mother, Marit Tjessem. They seemed to enjoy themselves out in the skjærgården. When the sailing ships left town ..."

If I understand it right, CP Haakon and CP Mette-Marit were at a concert of the Norwegian band Touchdown in the Angst Bar in Oslo yesterday.

"You know the mood is real when the crown prince and Mette-Marit comes at Touchdown!"

"And somewhere in there are the Crown Prince and Crown Princess and dance. On Anxiety. The little tavern on Strøget with light chains from Clas Olsen and plastic flowers from Nille. Great. Gedi Gent. Worthy end to an insane delicious week, thank you for your visit well people."

The Dutch media write about -again- strong criticism on the Crown Prince and his spouse. No idea how serious this is. A translation:

OSLO - The Norwegian crown princely couple is under fire because of their family vacation on the luxury yacht 'Mia Elise', earlier this month. This ship can be rented for 250.000 Euros a week. It has become clear that Crown Prince Haakon and -Princess Mette-Marit did not pay themselves, but Mr Sveinung Rotevatn, member of Parliament for Venstre (Liberals) wants to know who paid for their trip then.

So far the Norwegian Court has refused to comment and turned away all questions: a vacation is private and what the crown princely couple does with their money is nobody's business. Mr Rotevatn however finds that disclosure must be given about the sponsor of this cruise on the Mediterranean as there may very well be something expected from the future King, in return. Mr Rotevatn gets support from Mr Bjørnar Moxnes, leader of Rødt (Socialists).

During the trip the crown princely family was photographed by paparazzi but only now this has lead to commotion in Norway. In a strong-worded commentary in the newspaper Dagbladet the crown princely couple was grilled. Most people learn from their mistakes and do not make these again, according to the newspaper, if not Haakon and Mette-Marit who have previously been criticized for their -in Norwegian eyes- extravagant and luxurious lifestyle.

There was fuss about expensive clothes worn by Crown Princess Mette-Marit, which often were loaned or donated by famous fashion houses. "The luxury life creates distance with the people and that does no good to the monarchy," stated the newspaper, which also calls for transparency. The Norwegian customs and values want that the royal family should behave like everyone else, and expensive cars, fast boats or lavish vacations do not fit in that.

That Crown Prince Haakon's grandfather King Olav occasionally took the streetcar (tram) - which would be impossible now, for security reasons alone - is etched in the collective memory. Sailing with a yacht on the Mediterranean does not fit into that picture.

^^^^^^^ I don't know the situation so can't comment on the content, but that's a really unflattering picture that the editors of the article (see the link posted) have chosen to use...
If magazines use pictures like these I always have a feeling that the writer/editor are trying to persuade the reader into a specific direction before even reading the article itself, I'm a bit allergic to that
(but that's just me, as said, I don't know the norwegian royal family well enough to comment on the content)

The Norwegian media is full of this story. IMO it will only increase once Haakon & MM are King & Queen. I don't think MM's antics will be tolerated in the long run.

When Crown Prince Haakon would have married Donna Beatrice Borromeo, to name someone, then the expensive lifestyle would be selbstverständlich: "What do you expect? It is a Borromeo...". It is just a mindset, a framework. We can see the same mechanism in British media, with Catherine Middleton facing a critical attitude as well. "Look at them, those upstarts" while the daughter from the Earl Spencer would have another framing. I hope I have expressed it well enough, it is difficult to explain.

Never leaving out the opportunity to promote your very own specific ideas of that "unequal" marriage thing!
I do not believe one second that the norwegian people would be more tolerant when a Beatrice Borromeo as a norwegian Crown Princess would lead a luxurious jet set life only because she´s some obscure italian comtessa or something.
And I haven´ t heard, read or seen anything like "Those upstarts" in relation to the Duchess of Cambridge! Never! These are your very own projections and have nothing to do with reality.
Yes, you did express it well enough! We know only too well what your 19th century ideals are!

I am not promoting anything at all. I am only assessing the question "Why is the press so on Mette-Marit?" with a very regular social phenomenon which happens in all layers of society and every day.

A colleague who has always worked with fellow workers on a floor and is suddenly promoted to be a manager, will face more scrutiny from his former fellow colleagues than wider in the organization. "Who are you to think you are more than us?"

A woman from a normal neighbourhood suddenly marrying "well" and then visiting her family back in her original neighbourhood, but now with a Mercedes and telling about her second home in the Provence, will face the same critical attitude. "Look at her, Madame, puh! She must not think she can stick her nose in the air!"

So my assessment why Mette-Marit, wearing couture and sailing on expensive yachts, faces a remarkable critical attitude from her fellow Norwegians is directly connected with the phenomenon I described above. But anyone with another guess is as good as it is. After all this forum is free for different viewpoints on a situation.

We went through this with Sweden just last month. It makes not an iota of difference with 21c constitutional monarchies if you're royal born, noble born or a car mechanic. If you screw up the press will call you on it.

Do we really think if Haakon married Beatrice Borromeo the Norwegian press would just shrug its shoulders and say so what she's a Borromeo what do you expect?

If the Norwegian press is anything like the British press it wouldn't. Princess Beatrice jets all over the world and she is crucified for it in the press.

No free pass just because you have 'of York' after your name.

Kronprinsesse Mette-Marit i trafikkuhell

Translated by me. I hope all of you understand it.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit in traffic accident

Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been hit in the car and had to drop a reception at the UN women's organization on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

- She was hit in the car. It was a minor traffic accident and completely undramatic, says communications manager at the Royal Palace, Marianne Hagen.

- Because she previously have had problems with her neck, she chose to take it easy yesterday. Today has progressed as planned, she said Wednesday afternoon.

Crown Prince Haakon attended the event on Tuesday night instead of his wife.

The Crown Princess was operated for neck problems in 2013. Then she had struggled with the problems since 2008 when she fell during a visit to Ukraine.

Oh dear, I hope MM is alright. I remember when she had problems with her back (I think she took quite a long break from royal duties?) so I hope it's not injured or in pain.

I hope so too, but I admit when it was announced earlier this year she decided not to camp overnight w/the rest of the Family during their annual camping weekend due to neck pain, alarm bells started going off. Seeing the runners instead of flat shoes like Victoria wore for the more Formal part of the Climate event also had me wondering. Those shoes would have more of a grip on that cobblestone street after all.

I really do hope The Crown Princess' neck problems haven't come back. Dealing w/Chronic Pain day in and out is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, as it is not fun believe me, but for it to be in the neck...I just can't imagine.

Duc et Pair then why does the media criticize Princess Beatrice? Why does the media criticize Princess Madeline? The negativity and complaints around these two is so extreme. Why doesn't your little theory apply to them if they are not commoners. I have never seen anyone say "what do you expect? They are princesses..." instead they get criticized for working very little and bringing bad publicity to their royal houses.

I think Duc et Pair makes an interesting point. The comparison with Catherine Middleton I feel is especially valid. The british press has been very nasty to her family in the past and much of it extremely petty and sounding like the dressing down you get for " reaching above their station". Her family have wealth but not rank. I think his example with Beatrice was just trying to say that perhaps it would have been a way of life she was used to and not aspiring to.We don't hear the press chastising Caroline for her clothes and way of life but they do express comment when Mette or Catherine ( think Mustique) enjoy parts of the lfiestyle. Remember these are just things I have noted they are not hard fact.
