The consultations continued this morning, December 10:

:previous:

The consultations raised quite some eyebrows as the chairman of the SP.A (Flemish Labour) wore white sneakers under his suit - the horror. Mr. Conner Rousseau is only 27 years old. And to add insult to injury he used some informal words to describe his meeting with the King. He said that they became 'mattekes' (Flemish dialect for 'mates') and referred to 'De Fluppe' (Flemish dialect for Filip perhaps?).

A barrage of criticism followed in the press and on social media. The party chairman was critisized for being too informal and needing to find a balance between the speaking-style of young people and politicians if he wants to be taken seriously. Others claimed he showed a lack of respect.

Rousseau himself claims that the King did not have a problem with his shoes and wondered why anybody else would.

According the newspaper De Standaard, the King himself took the initiative for this visit. At youth news bullitin he visited he also explained that he already knew a lot about it as some of them had already visited the palace to make in preparation of the visit. He added that it was a challenge to explain the news in a way to be understood by children, something he tries to do at home too. He added:: "Trying to explain Brexit. How do you do that?"
