Such as our Political Situation ....
:previous:I've been following Iceflower's image posts of "informer negotiators" come and go from the Royal Palace since your election last May. King Philippe is given quite a job.

Government formations usually take a long time in Belgium (and The Netherlands) but this one has been especially difficult. The informer received a first extension of a week to bring the parties together. If this attempt (+ extensions) fails it is likely that there will be new elections to break the deadlock.

It looks very blustery in Brussels ahead of the meeting at the Royal Palace!

It was the storm Ciara. The Waranda park in front of the palace is closed until Wednesday, as are all the other parks in the city.

It appears King Philippe is now meeting with a new set of informers in hopes of a new government this time round. Is King Philippe's role more passive facilitator than an active coordinator?

Today, March 11, King Philippe has visited the laboratory Sciensano in Uccle followed by an information session on the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Belgium's approach to its spread:

The address of His Majesty the King to the nation with subtitles in English

I liked the King's mention that his thoughts are with the elderly people who are feeling socially isolated.

The King had a skype meeting of half an hour with 25 employees of the Rega Institute of the Catholic University of Louvain and its University Hospital. The team is leading in the research of the response to the Corona virus in Belgium.

Professor Marc van Ranst -Belgium's leading virologist who is on television on a daily basis these days- praised the King: 'the king was well informed and showed real empathy, something that can not be faked'. He added that a conversation like this is very motivating for researchers. He praised the response of the King and Queen to the crisis. The King himself intervened with the Chinese Alibaba Foundation, which later donated 500.000 protective face masks to the Belgian health authorities.
