The Prince of Wales was in Cumbria and the Lake District today, March 26. First he met volunteers who help to maintain the Langwathby Railway Station.

As Patron of the Prince's Countryside Fund he visited the National Centre for the Uplands at Newton Rigg College.

He visited the environmentally accredited Lake District attraction Ullswater Steamers company and made a trip on their flagship Steamer the 'Lady of the Lake' who is celebrating her 140th anniversary.

As Royal Founding Patron of Business in the Community he undertook a Seeing is Believing visit to James Cropper PLC, paper manufacturer.

And he attended a ceremony to unveil the official plaque to designate the Lake District National Park as a United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization World Heritage Site.

Charles really does love spending his holidays in Scotland doesn't he? He goes there as soon as he can at Christmas time (often on Christmas Day itself - while Camilla goes to her family for Christmas dinner). He goes to Scotland for the Easter break and again for most of August and September. He spends more time there than the Queen, who we all know loves Balmoral but Charles loves it even more it seems.

Scotland, I think, is the place where Charles finds that he can just be. Away from the crowds and people and meetings and events, he can slow down and get back to nature and restore his peace and serenity. I think he'd move to Scotland permanently if he could.

How much time does he spend there at each break? Do we know? August and September count for two months. How long does he spend there from Christmas? A month? And then at Easter, another month? That would be 4 months out of the year and that does suggest a deep kinship with the land and weather (and people).

A lot of the time that Charles is up in Scotland, he is not on holiday, but merely basing himself up there and conducting engagements locally. He is often at Dumfries House conducting a range of engagements, hosting fund raising dinners for his charities, seminars, workshops and other engagements. You just need to look at the CC to work out how many engagements get carried out in Scotland.

I must say he is in his element today with gardening and restoring old buildings, just a man I could really relate to as I love gardening and restoring old things. I also love that suit, he looks quite handsome today, that tie is gorgeous with that suit. As always he is so nicely turned out today.....

You said what I was thinking. He's really 'nicely turned out'. It helps that (for some reason) the quality of the pictures are excellent. Might be the lighting in the glass covered garden. His complexion looks great. Good color. Good photographer.

This is the good photo. Everything pops. We can even see that he's got an 'issue' with his tie and shirt. Ha! I feel like I'm nit-picking like we can tend to do with a woman's clothing. He's just usually so natty in even those details.
