I'm not sure if this should go here, but ...

'I distinctly heard someone say oysters': Prince Charles takes a trip on London Underground to celebrate 150 years of the Tube

So when does one actually get one's oysters? Prince Charles get his own travelcard for a trip on London Underground | Mail Online

The title doesn't say so, but Camilla was with him.

Oh man, that article made my mouth water. I wish Duchy Originals products were available in America, but I doubt they'd be able to up their distribution that much and maintain the same quality.

If there is a Barnes & Noble in your area, you could check there; the B&N stores in my area now have boxes of Duchy Originals biscuits available in the cafe area. I also see that they can be purchased at Amazon.com.

I would have to agree here. It seems that nowadays, at least here in the States, education has become test-focused. Teachers have to teach certain material in a certain frame, that allows the kids take and pass certain standardized tests. There's practically no time whatsoever to teach anything else. I'm teaching in a pre-school, and my kids are moving on to kindergarten next fall, and I'm so grateful for opportunities to teach them some coping skills, along with social skills that will help them be productive members of society.

Thank you for the tip! I'll be checking out my local Barnes & Noble cafe when I'm next in the neighborhood.

Punched as he slept, friends tortured with pliers: As it's revealed the Queen Mother tried to stop Charles going to Gordonstoun, no wonder he called it Colditz with kilts
Quote:
For a man regularly pilloried for his beliefs and attitudes, vindication comes often to the Prince of Wales. Long after he’s been criticised for speaking out about the environment or education, or the plight of the marmoset, people often quietly concede that maybe he was right. Who knows, one day we may all be talking to our house-plants. The latest episode in which the prince’s views on life have proved to be well-founded came this week with the publication of a series of letters from the Queen Mother.
Gordonstoun sounds absolutely horrible!

My brother was attending a boarding school here in Australia in the 1960s. At that time they regularly sent a teacher to Gordonstoun on exchange (still do as far as I am aware as another colleague who teaches at the school has done teaching exchanges there but in the 90s and 00s).

I asked him, last night, about whether or not any of the teachers he knew who had done the exchange had ever said anything about Charles or the school. He did say that they felt that Charles was a bit young for his age, was a target and that the school was tough. Now obviously Charles didn't complain to the staff about what was happening but from what I heard last night the teachers weren't aware of the bullying - sadly.

I agree with you. I remember reading in other places that Charles' boarding school experience was less than ideal, but according to this article, it sounds like pure torture.

Thanks for this scoop, Iluvbertie! It's such an asset that the RF have people like you who know people!

That would make sense- Charles would have had a very sheltered early childhood and he's always seemed like a sensitive character. I imagine the school would have been fine for some boys, but it sounds like it was quite unsuitable for Charles. It makes me feel sorry for him.

Charles kicks up stink over fish shop ban
Quote:
Against a backdrop of Britain’s worst food crisis since mad cow disease, Prince Charles has stepped in to save a family-run fishmongers which specialises in traditional methods of smoking its own haddock and salmon.Walter Purkis and Sons 133-year-old Victorian smokehouse survived a Luftwaffe bomb during the Blitz, and has seen off competition from Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer. But it is now threatened with closure by the local council following a single complaint about smell from a member of the public.

Last month, the family were told to close down because the smokehouse was in breach of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Clean Air Act 1993. Enter Prince Charles, a keen advocate of organic food and traditional cooking methods, and who has taken up the cudgels on their behalf.

Firstly, it's wonderful Prince Charles sticks for small, family-run business. Good for you, Sir!

Secondly, can anyone explain how a single complaint from a member of the public can lead to a closure of a business? I hate the smell of fast-food, does that mean McDonald's, KFC, SFS and Co that operate in Armenia are going to be closed?

This short film was recorded last year on The Prince of Wales's birthday (14th November 2012). His Royal Highness spent his 64th birthday with the people of New Zealand, and met thousands of people on the waterfront in Wellington.

Glad to see Action Man Charles has jumped into action on this one.

As for your second question, that sounds awfully fishy to me too.
